Full Tals Mf-er? viable?

is full tals good for mf-ing? or should i just get a shako and occy? or is the mf on it good enuff?

Full Tals offers a very good balance between MFing, +skills, resis, + or - enemy resis, etc.

Shako and Occy, together with the rest of the unique set-up, offer more MF compared to Tals, but suffers in terms of damage output and resis compared to Tals. Plus, that random tele on Occy will get her killed, sooner or later.

IMO, Tals is best for that good balance. But if you want to max your MF at the cost of (arguably) reduced spell damage and greater fragility, go with the uniques.

I use tals on my MF sorc. I have a total of 442 MFand all resis etc maxed. It works great! you dont even have to insert all topaz in the sox to get that mf.
I do andy, meph, pindle and baal with ease but skip diablo with all those IM...
I use the set, Rhyme shield, wartravelers, 2x nagelring, chancies, sc's and gheeds. Only 1 topaz in the armor.

Tals ammy + armor + belt yield 15+88+65 168% mf (you can socket the armor for 24% more mf). You get nice resists and mf. Shako and occy are better choices than completing the set as you get similar stats, but more mf. Although if you are a blizz sorc, death's fathom might be better than occy since you'd be able to do more runs per hour.

Combined with Tal Rasha's Adjudication (Amulet) and Tal Rasha's Guardianship (Armor) you'll receive +65% Magic Find which will be equal or greater than a 48% Amulet and 30% Goldwrap. An alternative is the 100% Wealth Rune Word, 30% Goldwrap and 48% Amulet.

If you are going 2 elements, Full Tal's. The mods are just too insane to give up. -resist is one of the best mods for PvM in the game.

As you can see the unique and magical items yield the highest % mf on each individual item. However they offer little life and resists.

The tals set is an all around good set for pvm, great resists, good life and mana bonus, decent cast and recovery rate, and it helps cold/fire/lightning all do more damage. You get 216% mf(if you socket with ptopaz) and you have the ring, boot, glove, and shield slots left open. You'd probably use 40% chance guards and 50% war travs for the glove and boot slots, which would bring you to 306%. For rings you'd either want sojs, or nagels, the 40% magic rings are probably too expensive. Personally i'd go with the soj, it's practically the best item for the sorc. For the shield, you should get lidless and weapon switch to a rhyme or if you can afford it, a 3ist normal shield. You could do a 4ist monarch, but that takes 156 strength, and your item that takes up the most strength is war travs with 95. But i bet you're strapped for cash, so lets assume you have 1 soj and 1 nagel(30%) and you got a rhyme shield on weapon switch (25%). Ideally on weapon switch you'd use a gull or dual isted alibaba to get the last hit. If you're poor you'd have a gull(100%).

So you'd get 306 +155 = 461%mf
Now throw in your gheeds and other various mf charms and you'd over 525%. That's pretty good if you look at this table.

Uniques are the most sought after items so that's the only % that matters. You can see it doesn't really gain much after 500-600%.

What the numbers mean, is that if a monster had a 1% chance of dropping a unique, and you had 400% mf, the chance of it dropping would increase to 3.36%. If you had 1000% mf, the increase would be 3.95%, which is a .6% increase, which isn't very much. So 400-600 is still good and it doesn't allow you to sacrifice much killing speed.

So yeah tals is pretty decent and it gives you good life/hp/resists/skills and it's pretty cheap. But if you're anal and rich you'd probably use uniques listed in the arreat summit link and get something all the good uniques socketed with ist runes.

it'd be shako(75), skulders ire(148), on weapon switch, 6 ist weapon(180), 4 ist monarch(100), goldwrap (30), war travs(50), chance guards (40), rare ammy with +2skills and resist/hp/mana/stats(30), Gheeds and 27 more small charms(229) thats 882, and the ring slots are still open, probably need sojs if you want to kill anything. Your primary weapons would be occy/deaths fathom and lidless/spirit. If you're really anal you'd let your merc with mf gear get the last hit. With that set up though you probably won't be able to kill as fast, and you are more prone to dying.

Good enough for now. I have max resists in Hell and 70% FCR, meeting the 63 breakpoint. Just need to get a lower resist charge wand so I can take care of the immunes I run into :D.

thanx all ;) and yea, when i get ist its getting put in the weapon, the helm and armor are p topaz'd and my belt is 15%, plus i got some 7 and 6 mf sc's... and maybe gheeds if i can get off my friend. and yea, i tested out lidless compared to my rhyme shield i have and im partial to ryhme at the moment, its got more mods and mf. i got 48 travs, and 1off chancies.
