I have a query regarding experience generation. Basically, I read the formulae in the Strategy Compendium and duly checked out the monster levels on the Arreat Summit. WHile I realise that the Arreat summit is error prone and never gospel, it didn't solve my problem anyway.
According to the formula for experience given both there and on the Facts&Formulae page, experience is governed only by clvl, mlvl and the actual experience per monster. However, If, for example, my lvl 85 character (on players 4) kills a Dark Stalker in the Tamoe Highland he gets around 1000 experience, yet I he kills it in the pit he gets 25000-30000. How does this work, because surely the clvl and mlvl haven't changed?
So where have I gone wrong to get this discrepancy? Is (as I suspect) experience somehow related to the area level?

Cheers guys

Mlvl = Arealvl on Nightmare and Hell. Tamoe and Pit are of different arealvls and so, the monster in the pit is of mlvl85, and on Tamoe of a lower one (can't recall the arealvl of Tamoe Highland).

Thats what I thought would be the case.
So there should be no difference in experience gained in say the Pit and the Maggot Lair (aside from the difference in the brute experience per kill). That is to say, you are no more penalised in the pit than the maggot lair

I think you'll find that the exp in most level 85 areas will be around the same. I don't have monlvl.txt with me at the moment, so I can't run some numbers through to confirm anything, but I don't think there's going to be any major differences (with the possible exception of Horadrim Ancient's in the worldstone keep, whom I believe give quite abit of experience)
