Me and a friend on uswest ladder have a rare eth phase blade.
It is crossing fingers going on a werewolf.

Soul Barb
1handed damage: 147-183
dex 126
str 15
lvl 61
attack speed very fast / -60
30% ias
221% ed
17 max damage
15 ar
4% life leech
1 open soct from quest.

What we want to do is to cube it with a p skull and a soj. To hopfuly get more ed, more ias, and a second soct. I read what arreats summits said about doing this. They didn't say much. Has any one here done this before? And what happened plz. I want to hear from experts that know what they are talking about. Thank you in addvance.

Cubing will REMOVE ethereal status. Pbs cant spawn ethereal, that means forever. So dont! And cubing with Sojs is an overkill, even if you cube with just Pskulls, you can get all the useful damage mods with a lvl 85 char. Its quite a nice weapon, keep it.

Ive heard from friends that cubing with soj and p skull doesnt not remove the eth stats. Only the 6 p skull one does.

The easiest way to see is testing in Single Player. Tho common sense and minimal knowledge about diablo II mechanics tells me you shouldnt do that.

Anyway, this is clearly not worth it for another reason. I've been playing ladder from the beginning and ID'ed quite a great lot of rare weapons. Only got two with 400+ ed. Out of, say, thousands. None got any significant IAS/other mods. You don't and will never have enough SoJs to roll a good weapon EVEN if it stays ethereal which I highly doubt.

And if you have like 1000 SoJs, why not sell them to vendors and get yourself a couple of Annies on ladder? ^^

EDIT: from the Item Generation Guide stickied at the top:

14. Ethereal items

This is quite simple. Armor or weapons have 5% chance to be ethereal. Indestructible items cannot be ethereal, except items, socketed by Zod rune and unique items, that are always ethereal and indestructible.
Set items cannot be ethereal.
Shopped, imbued and cubed items cannot be ethereal too.

Hope this helps

Ok if that quote is right then when am I able to cube eth armors and end up getting 1-4 socts and 50% more ed? I have been doing that for 2 weeks now. Yes I do own a eth sacred rondache 334 def 4 socts, I did own a eth dusk shroud 4 socts 1150 def traded for pul, or my helm it is giant conch 2 socts 292 def.

I did this with the socting recipes from diabloii.net 1.10 bata. LINK (http://www.diabloii.net/items/horadric-v110.shtml)

sheild - put tal amn p ruby and eth sheild

helm - ral thul p sapph and eth helm

armor - tal thul p topez and eth armor

weapon - ral amn p amethyst and eth weapon

No those are not quotes from diabloii.net but the info that I used was from that link. I just used eth items and not normal items. The armor was my best cube. I want to make a eth armor like that with only 2 socts tho.

unfortunately,

"Shopped, imbued and cubed items cannot be ethereal too. "

is already incorrect as we constantly imbue ethereal pikes and great mauls and the like on HC for pk weaponry.

The reroll recipes don't keep etherealness.

The only way to get an ethereal phase is to upgrade an ethereal rare or unique dimensional blade to elite.
