I've just read at Dii.net that weapons with a max of 5-6 sockets, will get a max of 4 when socketed by larzuk if the item level is between 25-39.
I need a 4 sockets war staff/rune staff. Where should I find one, keeping in mind those alvs?

I thought those staves would get 5 sockets, even at ilvl 1.

Well, I really don't know, I've read it here (http://www.diabloii.net/items/sockets.shtml)but, now that I think about it, it may be outdated.
Then, where would be a good place to look for one of these staves?

Jiansonz is right. A few lines below the table there is a link to a detailed list which is accurate except for circlet type items and a few wands, AFAIK.

Why does it have to be a war staff or a rune staff? If it could be a battle staff/shillegah/gothic staff it would get 4 sockets max, which is much easier.

Do you melee with it or only use it for medit 16 on switch ? I'm not expert in sorc char. So what are the "plus" using it as an end game weapon ?

The meditation aura is reason enough in my book.
