Hullo, my sorc has 63 str

I was thinking about whether to get either
- kite shield (lighter, 28 block)
- gothic shield (medium, 36 block)
- tower shield, str via twitch (heavy, 44% block)
The best option would be Ward but I'm too cheap.

I wouldnt want to sacrifice resists using twitch for the heavy tower.
Gothic shield doesnt look much different than a kite.

So i don't know. Should i go ahead and socket a 3s kite?

Would its low block rate kill me in Hell Chaos Sanctuary?

Im sure you would be fine with a 3 soc dia shield if you need the resistance bad but I suggest a 30/20 with resistance they aren’t very expensive. Also if you are having problems with resistance get yourself a wand 20 fcr, resistance, resistance goes as high as 40 on a wand. I would also remake that character 60 base str on a sorceress isn’t very good you shouldn’t have to put any points into str only put points I mana/health and dex if you need it. If you decide to remake a sorc with low str witch I recommend you doing. You will need a items with + str and resistance on them make sure every thing you get is low req like a cloak, skull cap, sash, low req shield, ammy with + sorc and resistance and or +str, mage fist or frosties or gloves with resistance, fcr rings with str / resistance, shard or wand with fcr and resistance. Boots with resistance. Just an example but you can easily find these items from hell cs so I recommend you going through cs on you’re current char collecting items like posted here and then remake you’re char.

If you must use a 3soc shield then go for a large shield from Fara in a2 norm.
If you have the str (I recommend twitch for nearly every sorc), then go for a tower. Tower with twitch is very nice block.

With twitch you will have 73 strength. Get 75 then use twitch + 3pdiamond tower

Once you get it, a perfect or close to perfect ward will be better

If you are poor and want a good shield,

Shop hell drognan for a prismatic bone/grim shield of deflecting- with this you can use an alternative armour than twitch since 60% block is fine, allowing you to use a fhr resist armour. Or just twitch for 75% block =P

3 soc large shield is the way to go if your rather low on str.

And fred, are those shields hard to find? :xmas17:

Whats the ilvl of that prismatic bone/grim shield of deflecting? I've tried numerous games with my lvl 83, with no luck. or does the ilvl not matter?

The prismatic prefix is lv 39 and the deflecting suffix is lv 11

So anyone lv 39 or over can find them in the shop. It just takes alot of time, be prepared to run in and out of the town for an hour and you should get one, but there is no guarantee as it is random ofc.

I would recommend act 2 and make sure the exit is next to drognan, and make sure you got fastest running gear on and light armour and shield. Then just keep running, they are easy to spot as they will be purple for prismatic, then just check those to see if they are deflecting as well. You might get one prismatic every 10 runs or so, then you just got to hope it has the suffix on it.

I like to mix this up with finding +2 pala scepters with +blessed hammer and or +concentration, which if you shop in nightmare you can see if they are +2 as they have a green tint to them, not so easy to see on scepters in act 2 hell.

Not really. Hell drognan is your 1 stop shop for many desirable magics (holy grim helms w/ life, holy grim shields of deflecting, +2 10 fcr scepters, 30/20 pris bone/grims, +2 20 fcr nec wands with useful + skills)

Well for one he is playing hardcore I believe, a 30/20 prismatic is not as easy to acquire.

I used to have the same attitude, that base stats is the best way to go, but my opinion has changed. It is very difficult to find rings with the mods you need (fcr, +life/mana and resists) that also include +dex/str mods, so you are forced to choose.

If you do decide to keep base str you will have to sacrifice some things. For example, total FCR, # of slots in belt, total resists, and you may still end up with less hps/mana. The reason I say this is because sorc only gets the 2hps per vit stat, and the %inc to mana no longer affected by BO making points in energy less useful, it makes more sense to use +life and +mana gear and add the stats yourself, as opposed to using gear mainly to get stats.

By all means, if you have 10fcr 15dex 60mana 30fire resist 30 light resist ring, use it. But I think when making a sorc plan to add some of the str and dex. I would personally recomend using magefist and other low str items, to avoid having to get to 60 str and allowing you to use better mods rings (as most fcr rings arent very godly if they didn't have the fcr mod).

You can shop magic 30/20 pris bone shields... but you cant socket :(

I agree with you. I have no problem dumping 45 to strength and 51 to dex (less if i use twitch) on a din or sorc

My sorc uses ghetto but effective gear, its a real tank at hell cs

I used to use twitch + pward + fhr res boots,(along with full ithara, shard, and 2X fcr rings) but now i have switched my setup to blinkbats, 30/20 20 pris magic bone, and hotspur. My fhr is still decent, and i get 95% fire resist stacked, along with some nice block and fbr

On single player i created a lvl 80 hc orb//ts sorc using this setup, and i soloed cs with it a couple times while waiting for r/d to end

I forgot about magic shields.

Prizm 30/20's are much much easier to find than a +2 10fcr scept, my 92 din is still using a 10fcr +2bh :cheesy: so I think the go-insane-from-hours-and-hours-of-shopping factor is lessened... sometimes a little medicine helps.. :stoned:

I do think that most people don't realize how strong they can be using less than amazing gear, and sometimes people think they have to use rares when really simple uniques or socketed helms own their setup.

They are terribly hard to shop.
I once shopped for over an hour searching for a 30/20 *20 Prizmatic, the closest I found was a 15/10 *16 prizmatic. Then I decided this very old, cheesy game was wasting too much of my time. The addiction hit me again in under twenty-four hours and I came right back.

Stupid Diablo II and it's addictiveness.
I'm pretty sure quitting smoking would be easier than quitting Diablo II.
