I found a Sacred targe 4os the other day. Which is great cause I am building a new 100% smiter. Was gonna do smiter/zealer but said nah...

Anyhoe I have a 148 def +33% Edam +61 ar shield with 4os. I am gonna make a spirit.

Should I?? I was thinking the smite dmg was pretty good.. 72 max or something. I figured this would at least get me started and help keep me alive while trying to level up.

What would realistically be a good shield to use for spirit? Still a sacred targe but with +res I assume?? bear in mind that I am poor.. I have nothing to trade literally.. so I need to find these things.

Any 4 socket paladin shield with +res will work for spirit

This i know. Being a pur 100% smiter.. No zeal nothing. I want to get the best bang for my buck (or 2 cents for this matter)

I was thinking. since the runes for this runeword are really cheap.. and it is an awesome rune word. IMO. Is there a better shield to use. Is there a higher DEF shield that would work better for DEF and smite damage. Should I keep my eyes open for a Vortex Shield or Guilded/zakarum with 4os??

EDIT.. would it be easier for me to try and find a crown shield and up it until it became a vortex.. And would it need to be upped twice or just once to reach that level? And secondly if I upped a crown shield that I find in Normal and up it. Would LAZ put 4os in it or would that be random based on the item being found in normal?

i personally prefer to have resists over ed/ar for spirit espically in pally shields if ur not getting exile yet. zaks have the best smite dmg imo since the difference is so little in dmg while a vortex has a huge smite dmg difference. but its personal preferance anyhow.

Make spirit in the shield you already have. The runes are cheap so make spirit and wait until you get an all res shield to make a new one.

Sacred Targe has the best block among the elite pally shields and vortex the worst. Zakarum shield doesn't have the best smite damage. All elite pally shields have an average of 46 smite damage except sacred rondache which has 46.5 .

Vortex shield has huge smite damage range (5 to 87 i think) which means your damage will fluctuate and that is not good. It has high strength and level requirements. Add the low block and you get the worst elite paladin shield in my book.

You cannot upgrade grey, white items or runewords.
