I am pretty sure it only goes for physical damage. :(

Only physical damage. Also, it is summed with all off-weapon ed% (including stat bonus, skills, auras, and armor ed%).

Black Hades is still a nice merc armor. I use either that one or Gris armor, both filled with IAS jewels, or Treachery for them.
