Ok, I haven't played much Dii lately, but I was wondering if it would be worth it to start over and make a Cleric-like Paladin to run Nithlack and all the undead in his lair? I know that all those monsters are near the very end of the game and have pretty good monster levels. The damage on Holy Bolt is very high even without +skills and correct me if I'm wrong, damage to the very few undead that are immune to magic still occurs from a holy bolt?

I felt like this would be a good character to do some solo runs in Nithlack. But if I'm wrong please tell me before I spend the time building him.

20 Blessed Hammer
20 Fist of Heavens
20 Holy Shock
10 Conviction
10 Holy Bolt

Then put points in both Holy Bolt and Conviction as necessary.

Well, a pure hammerdin would be a better choice but your build is more or less fine. Just keep in mind, the undead get fewer and fewer the lower you go in his lair.

Sadly it sounds like I probably couldn't solo that with this build. You are right too many non-undead critters.

If you're not using FoH for the lightning damage, what's the Conviction there for?

I have a cleric myself. It's a really fun and different character to play, and you should be doing Pindleskin runs with absolutely no problem with one.

Well I guess I'm deciding between the healing version and the lightning damage version. If lightning will be enough to help me on Nithlack runs, then I'll do it. Pindle runs take like 5 seconds. I wanted something more fun runs even if they are less efficient. And I thought Nithlack would be a decent challenge.

I actually have two clerics. One was made as a pure cleric, only dealing with holy bolt. Because I had so much fun playing with him, I made a hybrid build to handle more than just the undead, a "Cleric/Demon Hunter". He made use of holy bolt and smite, for killing both undead and demons. Lots of xx%ED vs. Demons and xxAR vs. Demons items and jewels were used, like LoH gloves and Black Hades with jewels (looks like this armor was made specifically for this build :D ).

He is best used in the Chaos Sanctuary, where everyone is either a demon or an undead, not to mention to good exp and drops there. If there are only demons and undead on the way to Nihlathak, you might find this build to be very suitable for you.

Good luck.

That's a very good idea. I'd love to see where you put your points, did that cleric heal? For softcore, healling just seems like a waste. Especially since it so hard to have a weapon for each creature in the game.

My current cleric is a take off on your average cleric and focuses entirely on offense. I sacked healing synergies and I'm putting it into foh and holy shock. The build finishes at 87, lower if I get a pally torch, anni, arachs, and sojs/bks. Or offensive skillers.

Mine mostly went on the offensive, though of coarse healing was a nice bonus to it.

He's at lvl 81. Without any +'s to skills, he currently has:
20 Fanaticism
20 Holy Shield
20 Holy Bolt
17 Blessed Hammer
1 Vigor
1 in each prereq.
Had I gone further with him, I would just continue to pile points into Blessed Hammer and Fist of the Heavens. That would require 30 more skill points.

He's been stripped for a while, but the three pieces of equipment that I have found suit his build best, were the Laying of Hands gloves and Black Hades armor that I mentioned before, and The Redeemer (+skills, great damage, extra dmg vs. demons, +holy bolt, gives you redemption).

I am building a cleric right now, the healing/support variety, didnt know that there were offensive variants, how strong are they?

mine
20 prayer
20 holy bolt
20 blessed hammer
20 FoH

standard healer/undead killer, not good for anything else unfortunately, I'm putting the spare points into salvation for when people need resists. I am having alot of fun following a barb around and shooting bolts at his back.

My offensive cleric fails at demon/animal crowd control. Besides that he can take anything.
