Ok, i've been playing this game for TWO YEARS, and i still CANNOT figure out how the heck do you assign hotkeys to skills. I know im gonna need it in PvP and its very convinent in MvP. Please someone tell me (physically) what i have to do. Please be very specific and treat me like a retarded 2 year old because i seriously cannot get it. So far i've went to the "menu" and "game controls" or w/e its called. There is a list of the specific hotkeys (w= weapon switch and so on) and then it goes to "skill". It says "skill one" and i try to assign a certain hotkey but it dosent match the actual skill "one". What the heck?? Does it mean skill one as in the first skill you learned or your favorite skill?......theres only 16 of them.....lol im so confused, i've been trying to reset these hotkeys for months and months now. Everyone i ask calls me a "noob" and leaves or gives me some BS answer. If anyone can help me out i would be very grateful. Please dont flame or yell, i didnt know any other place to post this but the "noob" forums. *sobs* :( :( :(

p.s. if only it was as easy as starcraft when all you do is hold down shift....

Press "S" to reveal the buttons for whatever skills you have learned. Hover over a skill you wish to hotkey. Press "F1". Now F1 is assigned to that skill. Now go to another skill you want to hotkey. Hover over it with your mouse and press "F2". Tah-dah!

Now that you have F1 and F2 assigned to whatever skill, simply press F1 or F2 to change to that skill. Note that you can do this on BOTH left and right click. Just click on the change skill icon at the bottom of the screen (like how you would normally change skills), hover and assign as said above. The skill 1~16 means you can assign at most 16 skills, per character, which is usually enough.
Yes, it is VERY convinent even if you don't PvP. I do this with a 2 element sorc and completely obliterates meph by spamming fireballs in between frozen orbs.

Only fix I know is to go to esc-otions-controls and click on DEAFULTS there, then reassign all keys.

What he said is correct. I had the same problem when I started playing too. But I did a search and found my answer. As MegaVovaN said, you need to:
Hit ESC
Option
Configure Controls
There you can configure the skills to the keys (don't matter which one).
Then in game (without any menu), click on the right skill icon
The skills you know will come up, put your mouse over the skill you want shortkey with, Hit the key you want to set shortcut with. Hope that's not too confusing.

does the game allow assigining hotkeys beyond F8? it wold be useful to have 4 more.

Try making your hot keys the keys under your left hand (if you're a right-handed mouse user). For instance I use f,d,s,a,g,b,r, etc. That way (after enough repetitions), you don't have to look up at the keyboard to find the right F key. To do this, follow ImMaClone's directions, then just enter the keys you want for the 16 skills that are available.
Alternatively, keep F1-8 and add as many letter keys as you need.

One of my chars has a skill assigned to F9. If you really want to know how I did it, I will try and figure out how I stumbled onto doing it.

Like rsed, I prefer to use hotkeys like r, s, v, scroll up/down, and F1-F3. They a bit easier to remember. :xmas10:

i used to have mine assigned to the Fkeys, but in the heat of battle, I all to often used potions from the belt by hitting 1,2,3 or 4 instead of the Fkey I was aiming for.
Now I have all my keys assigned to q,w,e,r/a,s,d,f/z,x,c,v I still have four more hotkeys to assign, but I don't need them...i rarely use half the ones I already have assigned.
The skills I use the most are on A (Revive) S (Bone Spirit) D (Corpse Explosion) and F (Decrepify)
It works very well.

If you go into the control options as described earlier in the thread, you can scroll down and there are hotkeys for up to like 12 skills. The last four are not assigned to any key by default. If you click on them and then chose the keys you want to use, F9-F12 for example, you can have more hotkeys. I hope I explained this correctly.
My enjoyment of this game increased dramatically once I learned to utilize the hotkeys.... Good luck all!
