Ar question

im a ww barb... i started using angelics cause my ar was too low to hit stuff... it worked for a while... but know i cant beat conc barbs and zealers cause i cant hit them... any suggestions?

my current setup is this

Pheonix Monarch
Fortitude
Dungo
Angelic Ammy
Angelic rings
Dracul
Gore Rider

My dmg is pretty good i just got to hit these dirty paladins... help?

Offhand, it may not be your AR. It looks like you're low on block and DR... or you pumped DEX to have max block with Phoenix, in which case you must have very low life.

Why the phoenix? that shield suxs for a Barb

for that extra 1k or so dmg on 1 weapon ur sacrificing max block, max Dr and the chance to duelwield.

Btw ar wise u need about 15k due to the ssupperior machanics of Whirlwind but seriously drop theishield, it only usefull in PvM in PvP u will prolly get ownt by mele chars with that. Get a Storm shield or duelwielding, i.e get a beast for ur other hand.

Duelwielding will give u more hit check per Whirlwind, this means u have a higher chance to hit ur opponment due to the fact u have 2 weaps over 1 and more dmg as u hit with 2 weaps opposed to 1.

A Grief + Beast is the strongest combo or Botd + beast when duelwielding

Also agaist smiter max block is useless as smiter never misses.

Well i used to use Beast + BOTD which i still have in my stash... but the pheonix gave nearly a 2k boost in dmg, and when i ww it only takes one to kill them... and it gives decent blocking.... my life is kinda low i guess because i have nothing for BO... its only level 24 or so...

Anyway, Using Beast + BOTD got me killed alot. I kill alot more pheonix + grief... you sure?

by the way... i suck with the abreviations... Dr = ?

Damage Reduce.

I agree that phoenix is a pretty horrible shield. You should be using Stormshield for pvp; great block rate, nice resists, 30% damage reduce, and 30% damage increase (thanks to the +30 strength).

Are you prebuffing with the Enchant from Demon Limb? That will help a bit.

As a side note, dual-wielding against melee opponents will get you killed if you wear an Arreat's -- you'll have a max of 31% from Verdungo's and two Bers in your Arreat's and armor. A BerBer CoA is the only choice for that setup.

hmm u can pull through mele duels without max dr but it depends what ur using, i.e fade prebuff + ur verdungos (perfect) gives u already 30% dr or dr from engima plus belt and fade prebuff or without fade.

but using shield in a smiter duel like that ristricts ur dmg here is a basic calculation

(fictiional numbers so plz dont quote me on them )

grief with phoenix shield = 2.5k dmg

last WW break point = 3 hits per Whirlwind

so 3 x 2.5k = 7.5k dmg in 1 whirlwind pass if all 3 hit checks are successfull


Now duelwielding


Grief + Beast = 1.7 + 3k

last WW break point for duelwield = 6 hits per Whirlwind

so 4.7k x 3 = 14.1k dmg in 1 whirlwind pass if all 6 hit checks are successfull


that is just an example but u can already see the huge dmg difference in the long run

Not only will u land more hit checks per Whirlwind, which will give you a better chance to hit and also give you a higher chance of landing deadly strike, openwounds and crushing blow

Plus the dmg difference outways the amount of dmg that the phoenix will give.

Also as hal said the only real viable shield for a barb is a storm shield due to the fact it has a high block rate, 35% dr some res and str as well as nice defence.
