My summoner is coming along nicely right now, lvl 21 in act 2, but I had a few questions for the future.

1. What would be the best mercenary weapon for me, based on my available options? I have an Honor etheral Mancatcher that does good damage, but would an Insight be a good option once I start spamming CE?

2. Now to my weapon. I have an Arm of King Leoric. I read something about the liablility of the % to cast bone prison. When it is cast, does is cast on me, trapping me? My other option I'm thinking would be to make a Spirit sword with a low strength requirement sword.

I don't really have the means to make cool stuff like an Infinity for my merc or a Heart of the Oak for myself, so as of yet those are out of the question. The better of the options I currently have, or other easily available substitutes will have to do.

1) insight isn't really a good choice unless ur running out of mana really fast from using CE. obediance i believe will be a good choice for a cheap merc weapon. doesn't need very high runes to make too.

2) the bone prison i believe will be cast on whoever hit u. not completely sure on this though as i dont often play them.

u dont really need an infinity for ur merc unless u find that ur minions aren't hitting them too often. AoKL is a very good choice for skellymancers. be sure to grab a might merc so ur skellys become more powerful. if u can afford a beast, use it on switch so u can make ur skellys even more powerful as well as attack faster from the fanat aura.

I have an honor polearm for my might-merc, he likes it. I have never had mana problems that would require an Insight. Once you get up in levels and get magefists you should be ok. An occasional blue pot is all you need.

The bone prison is cast around the baddie who just hit you. If it was a melee hit you also get caught inside the prison. I think the AoKL is better, but then, I do not have a Spirit sword. It looks interesting with the +2 skills, faster cast and plusses to life and mana I might try one to see how it works.

To get around the BP just do what every Summoner does. Prebuff your minions with the AoKL and switch to something else.

i never had a problem with my AoKL as main wep. CTA on switch is good. Not sure why you would need a different wep thoguh since youll be behind about 15 skellies

I usually run ahead of my skeletons to get to the next group of monsters, thus enlies the problem. With 5% chance to block, that Bone Prison will go off, which usually means I will be blocked by my own Bone Prison. This is why I use Gull Dagger on switch. But, I do see your point, I am just not patient enough though.

i never used my nec for MFing. i would imagine that your skellies are an extension of your mf. i think that would make a summoner the ultimate mfer. cant wait to see the day when the summoner rises to the top to beat out those damn pally's and sorcs. one day......... oh yes...one day

A giant thresher insight on a might merc at about level 85 will do about 1200-2400 damage (even more if put in an ethereal). I need it for spamming CE, raising a large summon army (17 skels, 16 mages, 27 revives) and for teleporting (have enigma).

Another inexpensive merc weapon is an Obedience. Nice crushing blow and good damage too.

Etheral Obedience is simply insane. With might, max damage > 5000 on my cryptic axe.
