View Full Version : Blizzard and Absorb
I actually got into a flame war about this a long long time ago :o
The way blizzard and the piercing of it works, like. Cold Mastery ups Blizzard so damn much that it can 1 hit KO many many things, and Cold Mastery helps break immunities or 95 resists (and maybe even stacked resists)
The way absorb works, I believe, is that first one takes the damage, and then absorbs the said amount back. Like if I absorb 125% cold damage, I take 100 damage from blizzard, then I heal for 125 correct?
If this is true, and I can 1 hit KO people with Blizzard...even absorbers will be defenseless against me, CORRECT?!
One word. Correct.
BUT, I doubt you can 1 hit EVERY absorber out there.

Break immunities? In your dreams laddie!
Absorb is capped at 40%.
If someone takes 100 damage from Blizzard with 40% cold absorb, he will heal 40 health first, and then receive 60 damage.
So if you have max life, it only works like resistances.
You can 1 KO hit certain people BUT
- assuming you have maximum Blizzard damage (16k I think)
- assuming you have insane cold mastery and facets (-350% iirc)
You still face a lot of problems in pvp.
- damage only is effective at 17% (pvp penalty)
- people will have insane stacked resistances (75% end)
- we won't add any absorb or magic damage reduction sofar
16000 (damage) / 6 (pvp penalty) = 2667
2667 (damage) / 4 (resistances) = 667
I don't think many people will have this low life...
Now let's add 40% absorb
667 (damage) * 0.4 (absorb without healing) = 267
And some straight absorb and damage reduction
267 (damage) - 40 = 227
227 damage left from the 16000, that's pvp reality, so the ones you did 1 hit KO'd, had no resistances, no absorb or bad life etc...
Now let's add 40% absorb
667 (damage) * 0.4 (absorb without healing) = 267
And some straight absorb and damage reduction
267 (damage) - 40 = 227
That should be 667 * 0.6 = 400.2 dmg. I really doubt everyone has 400+ Cold resist in PvP.
I may be wrong but I also thought blizzard first hit wasn't able to be absorbed? Or did they correct that?

Part one: my bad
Part two: I didn't pvp much, but I let a few experienced players explain me everything. They said good pvp players have insane stacked resistances, else it isn't much use to have absorb. Espescially now with the conviction mercs.

I have never heard of this, you might wanne check out the "Bug" forum (too lazy to do it myself :p )

I think that buy exsisted in 1.09-1.10. Probably fixed now.

I doubt this bug ever existed, it's more of a bnet rumor. The reason the first hit does more dmg is because the healing part of absorb is ignored at full health, which makes absorb half as effective.
That's strange, because it seems all the well-prepared, skilled people who kill me in PvP take a lot of damage from Blizzard.
From the calculations, my character should be able to take well over 5 Blizzards with stacked resist.
Plus, I thought that Cold Mastery could break immunities. I don't know where I read it, maybe Arreat Summit's skill page description, or is it just Conviction that can do this?

I think it's just conviction as Cold Mastery doesn't break immunities for Cold Immune monsters either. Players technically can't be "immune" anyways, so that fact wouldn't matter for PVP.

Conviction, Lower Resist, Amplify Damage =) Those break. Only PvM important though.

Actually, players CAN be immuun to one element: Poison (which can't be broken, not because conviction can't break poison immunity but because the poison immunity isn't resistance dependant) You can have -25% to poison resistance and still be immuun to it ^^

Anyone who is well prepared will not die to Blizzard, because he is going to stack res. Of course if "well-prepared people" that u have encountered think that dual ravens, luna and snowclash are going to help them, they are making a big mistake :)
