Now, im fairly new to Diablo, but ive got a few friends online that are pretty good, and whenever i find something I think is good, I ask them how much it is worth. They always respond "X Ists". Is this how Diablos economy is? Is everything worth a number of Ists? Is it the same for Ladder and None-Ladder? Is this how the trading on this forum works?

For Ladder, the currency is Ist. This is because Ist can drop off Hellforge, so everyone can reasonably have a few Ists or so. For the higher end stuff, high runes (Vex+) are used.

For NL, the currency is high runes and/or SoJs.

For both NL and Ladder, PGems are used for the low end stuff.
On this forum, you can either trade with currency items if you wish, or you can just straight-out barter one item for another.

In non ladder i think it is because you cannot upgrade runes in non-ladder. So if you have 2 guls, those runes will be totally worthless.

I don't see why ist should be the main currency...

Because most people regard it as currency.

What is the value of a banknote ? It's just a piece of paper, but others will accept it as a payment. In the past, a banknote was a guarantee of a bank to give you a certain amount of gold for it. In my country it was even written on them.

Yes that's how it works

but the catch is....that ists are incredibly hard to legitly (not considering trading) acquire for a player, assuming that player is not doing 1394719174 hell hellforge runs with new chars every day

don't you love the d2 "economies" ?

just like the soj economy, it was the currency but was near impossible to find

Aren't alot of the Ist on B.net being traded in Pub Games duped?

Yes. There are duped Ists floating around although no one knows what percentage are duped and what are legit.

and without precious rune dupes there would be no higher rune "economy" because no sane person would trade away an ist-gul+ runes, unless they ran forge extremly often

The fact that people run around with 6 isted phase blades because they 'need' the mf is testament to the fact that even ists are duped.

It became even more important when my precious ist went bye bye as soon as equipped my necro torch.

I guess God had pity cause my hellforge gave me a Gul =D.

Anyway, ist isn't currency just 'because' ist is the rune that by itself makes it possible for you to become even more wealthy. No other runes do it.
What am I talking about? The MF, the magic find.

It's also why soj's are so important. When the sorc, the most common mfer puts on all her mf equipment to do her daily duty, she loses a lot of plus skills.

With soj, all you have to do is don the little wonder ring and get your skill back and a large mana boost to boot.

It's my theory anyway.

IST-GUL would still be traded, as forgerunning isn't a big deal.

VEX would also be traded, since it's made from 2 GULs. It would be expensive, but possible. *Maybe* the 2*VEX rune would be traded as well.

Beyond that, however, prices would quickly skyrocket beyond affordability, IMHO.

Ist's are not hard to get legitly.

Try rushing yourself in classic a few times, importing after you finish act 2, and then rushing the rest of the way for forge. Takes about an hour each time (sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less). I've done it roughly 25 times this ladder, gotten 3 guls and 4 ist's, 1 mal, and 3-4 ums that way.

Yes, It's fustrating when you go to that length AND wind up getting a hel run on the helforge, but then, tell me a faster method to get decent runes?
