I was happily playing away this afternoon with my Freezealot. I got to the Fridged Highlands wp, and stepped onto it to go back to town. My CD drive spun up the disk to read whatever it thinks it needed to read, and then I appeared in town and started walking over to Cain, and BLAHM!! This really loud banging/crunching noise, and the cd rom stops spinning instantly!

Holy crap! I think to myself, wtf just happened? So I press the eject button on my CD drive, and it opens about an inch and gets jammed, which didn't surprise me, but then little tiny bits of cd started sprinkeling out onto the floor. My Lord of Destruction CD _totaly_ destroyed itself! Jesus! I've actually heard of this happening to 1 or 2 other people on this forum in the past. Do you think Blizzard will send me a new CD?

Of course, this is the weekend when my Girlfriend is away, and I was planning on playing Diablo 2 all weekend, so I had to go out to the future shop and buy a new copy, but of course, they didn't have just the expantion pack, I had to get the whole game again for almost $60!

Oh well, now I have that extra CD Key I needed for a channel bot!

I'm working on getting some pictures up.

Google and download a no-cd executable file.
Say goodbye to the loud cd spinning  and "save your money!"

To avoid cd-spinning

1) transfer all music files from the cd(s) to your d2 folder such d2music.mpq, d2xmusic.mpq, etc.

2) take out the d2 cd as soon as you get to the title screen

3) leave game music off, it sucks horribly anyways

Shadoway:
That sounds kinda like a crack. Is it legal? will I still be able to get onto Battle.net if I do that?

Omikron8:
Do I just stick them in the Diablo 2 folder? not in a specific sub folder or anything?

Thanks guys!

Tai.

Yes, just copy them off the CD to your Diablo 2 folder and it'll make it so the game doesn't need to read the music off the CD, then if you don't want to crack the program, take the CD out of your drive once you've loaded and you won't have to read your drive at all.

Cheers
