Spirit for tal sorc?

I recently got back into the game, I am nearing completion of my tal set (to me the best bang for the buck in terms of a MF character). But I am hung up on what shield to use.

when I played 18 months ago I went with a pdiamond in whatever that unique grim shield is.

But I was thinking that splendor in a grim shield would be a nice call, but what really has me intrigued is a spirit monarch.

So my question is for a tal fireball sorc, who is a dedicated meph, pindle, and maybe key runner. Can I afford the str. for the monarch or will I end up with a broken char and have to remake? I may also duel in some pubby's with her, but that is just to mess around, not a serious dueling char.

Going for monarch is not a good idea for pvp as a charger will probably put you rest with ease. Otherwise for PvM purposes a Spirit Monarch is 2nd to none. The strength is perfectly affordable, it gives 22vit so essentially you only need 13x strength. Don't forget the fact that wartraveller gives a healthy boost in strength, and that helps. Did I mention the 55fhr and the mana pool and the resistance it gives?

couldn't agree more...

pvp you are going to want some block, use stormshield

pvm you are going to want skills/fcr/res/etc, use spirit

if you dont want to dish out all of that strength for a spirit monarch, use a lidless, it's kind of a spirit jr.

... even though a spirit monarch is the best 156 strength you can spend ... it's your choice :thumbsup:

Tal's sorc + perfect spirit + Magefist = 105% FCR. One of the big reasons to use it, if not for the +skills and all. This leaves you both ring slots open, so that you can equip Raven's for CBF, Nature's for RIP, SoJ/BK for +skills, or even Negal for MF. It's very well worth the price.

Tal's and spirit probably don't belong in any serious duels, though.

Anyway. The STR is not a big deal. Put 140 STR on a sorc, at lvl 90 she can still have 300 VIT and 75 NRG for example. Add in the boatload of mana and life you get from Tal's, that's a pretty healthy sorc.

I am considering wether i should use a spirit monarch on my MF sorc as well. How much dex would u spend on her in that case? Just keep it at enough for gear, or increase to get max block? And how many points would it take to achieve max block?

Don't bother going max block with spirit monarch, it's just waste of stats points IMO.

It needs 300~ stats point into dexterity for max block, I think.

is Spirit + Occy or Spirit + Wiz betteR?

I'm vouching for Occy + Spirit. I assume you're MF'ing right?

Under most circumstances, Occy + Spirit is better than Wizzy + Spirit, even though Blizzard already does nice damage without +skill gears.

the only thing occy is really useful for is the +3 skills. the MF on it is useless because i have alibaba on switch.

however if i do use occy instead of wiz, i save a ton of points in dex.

im torn
