Runes don't poof if they are self-found or from trustful people. If they have a dubious origin, you have to live with them poofing from time to time.
There are a few myths about perming runes, like putting them into a trade window (and not pressing accept, of course) and then leaving the game as quickly as possible, but I don't think this has been proven in any way. It's just that many people heard that story and therefore a lot of them believe it because of that.

Even from trustful people they may poof, many people are trading in the tc and then with the consequenses that follow.

With a trustful person I actually meant a trustful person who found it himself ;)

And I have more requirements for a trustful person, even when telling the truth may not prevent him/her from steeling.

If a rune is a dupe, it will poof at some point.
That's a given, and there is no way to prevent a dupe from going bye bye.
Anyone who says different is lying.
Even if it is part of a runeword?
When part of a runewrod, it makes it even more painful when you lose your hard traded 3 soc or 4 soc armor

oh noes... i made a post about this earlier, and people said it doesn't go poof when it's in a runeword. has anyone actually had a runeword go poof themselves? don't say yes if your friend had it happen, or someone on a forum, but yes if it was you!

I wouldn't go that far and call it lying (especially because people get scared when mods do that  ), but it's just hearsay and not statistically established in an acceptable way. Especially it's believed because people want to believe it, making them feel safe when performing some ritual with their possession which is threatened by something they don't fully understand and cannot influence.
Why does that remind me of voodoo, astrology, esoterism and a few religious practices ?

Sure, but my point is, if it's a dupe, it will poof at some point.

Still waiting -or hoping- on this one :)

I only trade for runes when I need them to make something. None of my runewords have poofed...yet.

They could be lying to themselves. and that my padawan learner is far more dangerous.
Hmm I think it might be time to go home from work.

Runes retain their indvidual id's even in a runeword... if they ever run active ruststorm all duped items will poof... other then that I don't know anything about dupes.
So is there some way to test for dupes? How often does blizzard go through and clean out dupes? I got burned on a duped soj on the trade forums. Even though, I am poor I know it is still part of the game and we all have to live with it. If we had some kind of idea on how often they cleaned dupes out then we could just hold off on socketing stuff until they cleaned. Then you could go ahead and insert your runes with out losing the whole item. It sounds kind of bunk though, I can see deleting the duped rune, but the whole item? That is just a shame.

There is no way to "test" to see if the rune is a dupe. The only way you'll know for sure is if it poofs on you.

I must be lucky then. I'm too poor to afford all those high-blown duped junks that people dupe.

Perming is just a myth. Many of my runes that I "permed" poofed anyways.
