Upping Weapons

So ive found a etheral socketed exceptional weapon that I need to be elite, Am I correct in thinking the cube recipe wont work for this?

It only works on uniques right? Cheers for anyone who can help me :p

You are indeed correct about not being able to upgrade your normal ethereal item. Only rares and uniques can be upgraded, and even then you can only upgrade from an exceptional unique to elite on ladder.
