I bought this game specifically to play online with a friend. I am in the US and he is in Europe. We both have the expansion but when we try and host a game or join a game, we can not get into the other persons game. Just keep getting a msg that says we are unsuccessful. We go to the open battle net option and are both on the US East server, we will make a game but the other can never get in. Please help me.

Thanks in Advance!

Are you both logging into the same realm? Since your in the US, I assume your logging into the USWest or USEast realm? If you are, and if he is logging into the Europe realm, then you won't be able to see each other. You'll both need to sort out which realm you want to use.

Nope we are on the same one. Have tried everything at this point and now I am wondering why I bought the expansion. We both tried US east first, with no luck then US west, we both tried to start a game, and we can get one started with a password and all but, the other person just cant join. We get a loading screen then a msg that says we can not join.

I am now very very frustrated.

Are both of you able to join public games? Not necessarily the same public game, but any?

Yes we both have no problems joining other games.

I wonder if one of you in on ladder and the other is not.

Also there is the question of open and closed realms.

both of you should host some of your own public games and see if anyone joins. if nobody ever joins one or both of your games, it's possibly a firewall / router issue. i had similar problems a year or so ago and after fighting with my router for weeks i decided to set it to DMZ (no blocking of ports), and everything worked fine.

also consider what gorny said.

We are both on open battlenet, not on ladder and we can both join the same public games. So we can play together but, it seems that the host always leaves the games we get in before we get much play time in so we get kicked off then.

It seems like no one has any clue whats going on.

Thanks for trying, I'll keep checking back to see if something comes up.

We are both on open battlenet
It's probably a router issue then. Whichever of you is behind a router needs to forward port 4000 to your computer. Hopefully you should then be able to host.

Try hosting in closed bnet instead of open bnet because open bnet is well.... chaotic to say the least...
