What's with those odd skeletons that nihilthak sometimes summons? They don't seem to do anything but stand still, so I imagine it's some kind of bug. I think that my merc even with his nihilthak polarm can kill them (normal non eth insight), yet they still hurt like hell when he blows them up (I've got natures peace on, so it's not me killing 'em ;) ).

Sounds weird. Isnīt there an elite unique polearm that has a chance to re-animate killed monsters as 'Returned'? Are you using that? Itīs a popular merc weapon, but I guess heīs not using it since you mention Insight.

I think he only summons ice spawns and those suicidal ones. I might have seen a non-archer skeleton a few times though, not sure since they're usually dead pretty fast :P
It could be those ranged skeletons that turn melee when you get too close.
And if nith blows something up it means your merc killed them.

Yep, he's using insight. The polarm you are referring to is Tomb Reaver I believe. He's not using that.

I know, that's the problem. My merc can kill them even when he's got a crappy damage polarm on (so HE DOESNT kill anything). What makes it a pain is that they're so fragile yet when nihilthak blows it up it hurts like they aren't!

I've run into them a few more times and took some screenies.

Screenie 2 (http://img347.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshot0461qa.jpg)

It died before I could hover over on the second one, possibly because it hit me and I had a cold armor on.

This is weird indeed. That floor isnīt supposed to have melee skeletons at all.
Does Nihlathak summon them in the same way that he summons the Ice Spawns (they appear next to him)?

I've noticed them as well, tho I run Nilith with my zealot so taking a few CE's is fine as long as lifetaps kicked in. Just did a quick check on AS and no skeleton summoning skill is listed there (not that is really proof, given the general errors in the AS). Anyone noticed what kind of other monsters are around when the skeletons pop up? Not that any of them should be able to summon skeletons.

Just did a few more Nilthak runs and noticed a few things. He seems to be able to cast the same suicide minion thing on the skeletons as he can on regular minions. Was hacking my way thru with just my Zealot (who wears Natures Peace) and Nilth very clearly blew up 2 skeleton corpses. This could be what was causing you problems Necrochild313.

I believe so, I am sure that they aren't there when I teleport down.

Thanks, very odd that he can do that to the skeletons. Now if only the skeletons would only take a sliver away when CE'd like the suicide minions do!

These skellies also, when moving (which rarely happens, but they can be howled, or taunted) will dissapear until they stop moving and simply stand there -- they niether attack, nor move (at least most of the time, Sometimes they will move towards you).

They do seem to have very low HP, but when they die, its almost like taking a hit from a FE Ancient if your right on top of them, they do even more damage then C/E's from nihlathek himself. (IE, They explode once dead, even after nihly himself is dead).

Nihly can also cast the red-aura thing on them, though they don't do anything with it.

He can also summon that randomly, sometimes he will summon 1 or 2 when I first show up (they raise up out of the ground, though not next to him, usually its random around his room), and then the fight proceeds normally.

Whats wierd, is that these skellies also drop items, so its not as if they are just bugged no-drop monsters, or whatever. Checking d2data.net nothing is listed there to explain the skellies :/

Anyways, they always did bug me, so for the time being I will just think of them as ice spawns that nihly only half-summoned :)

I actually had a thought that they are themselves the way that nihly can cause use c/e, as if they are the things that actually explode when he casts c/e, I dunno. Guess that doesnt really make sense, but the fact that they dont move/have no other animation then just standing there... And also do damage as if they were fire enchanted (exploding on death)...

Ah well. Oddities they surely are :P

They are very odd indeed, I wonder what would happen if they are revived? Hrmm...

They may not be able to, since they explode on death. I don't think I was able to hork them either :/

Haven't tried reviving yet, but I did notice that for some reason if tp to town and come back the skeletons are gone when you come back. These things just seem to be getting stranger.

EDIT:

Ok, I just killed one in a single hit with 1 point telekenisis, and it's immune to lightning. Very strange.

[bitter sarcasm]Nihilithak... one would think that after 5 years people would FINALLY be able to spell it right... well there you go, I'll add that to my collection of misspelled Nihlathak names. I've got ones like Nithilik and Nilhitak already, this will make a fine addition. [/bitter sarcasm]

/stuff that doesn't matter

I think this is really, really strange, and I'm trying to investigate myself. Maybe his CS only works on these things?
