Im wondering if I should try to Imbue this eth dimensional sword that I found in hell cows. If so, what lvl should the imbuer be to get some good mods like cruel or fools?

Don't bother with the imbue quest unless you're going for circlets, the mods can vary FAR too much on weapons, and even the best will still be outshined by runewords.

The ethereal property stays there when imbued?

Yes it does

This was a change made in the 1.11 patch, also any ethereal item cubed outputs ethereal as well.

Edit:

Upgrading an ethereal dimensional blade is the only way to create an ethereal phase blade. A cruel one could be either imbued or cubed and then upgraded.

also any ethereal item cubed outputs ethereal as well. Not true. If it was, I'd use the blood reapon craft and go for a 510% damage ethereal berzerker axe.

Are you saying an upgraded eth dimensional blade won't become an eth phase blade?

It will stay ethereal. I have a few from last season's ladder.

Really? From the 1.11 patch.txt:

- Transmuting an ethereal item now retains the ethereal stats bonuses.

This lead to the new socketing bug. I assumed this applied not only to upgrading, but other cube recipies as well.

You are correct, I just tried crafting an ethereal. Blizzard was never very good at explaining exactly how most of the cube functions work. I thought it might have been one of the changes, given the above text.

This lead to the new socketing bug. I assumed this applied not only to upgrading, but other cube recipies as well. The patch.txts are like 3rd grade book reports. They're kind of like a summary, but absolutely useless. This should have said, "upgrading armor now retains the ethereal stats bonus. When we implemented this, it also got applied to the cube socketing recipe, and we forgot that we had already specifically put in a fix to keep etherealness there, so it is getting applied twice. There were no other changes to the way cubing ethereal items works."
Are you saying an upgraded eth dimensional blade won't become an eth phase blade? No, I am not saying that. I said that not all cube recipes maintain etherealness. Upgrading is one that does, but crafting does not. In general, if a cube recipe rerolls all the stats of an item, then it will not keep ethereality. (Charsi's rare item creation is NOT a cube recipe.)
