IK sockets

Guys, i was wondering what would be the best way to fill up those sockets in my IK set. I have 1 on the armor, 2 on the helm and 2 on the maul. I was thinking on adding some enhanced defence thingy on the armor and a gul and shael on the maul (as soon as i can afford a gul). What would you recommend? what is best for kicking monster ***!

IIRC the maul wants 30% more IAS if you are using WW, so you'll need two Shaels or two IAS jewels.
I'm socketing the rest with PTopazes probably. I'm not saying this is the best idea though, I just want him to have more MF.

That'd be pointless if you are going to be using WW.

Dual Shael the weapon, or 15 IAS jewels(preferably with %ED). The armor and helm should either get Ptopazes or you could find some other jewels/runes to fit your personal taste.

dual shael in the weapon, what exactly is the point in faster hitting power while whirling? isnt it better to get some mor AR to hit more often? i was thinking about 2x um in the helm to get my resis maxed. does this fit any use? does it make a difference in having 90 resis or 130 resis?

The faster the swing speed of the weapon, the more chances you get to hit per whirl. Besides, for PvM, once you get around 7k ar, you're fine.

There's no need to get more resis. The set gives incredible resists. Combined with Anya quests and a charm/ring you should be maxed without a problem.

I would go with ptopazes. 2 in the helm and then save your armor for something worthwhile. 40/15 *** if possible.

and what if i wanna do a bit of pvp? i know IK barbs arent very hard but just for fun or something? would more resis make a difference then? i am maxed out now but still, if i had like 40 more resis to all, that would make a differnce doing solo hell in some situations with a lot of shooters etc, wouldnt it?

no teleport + no shield = dead barb in pvp, whether facing casters or melee

last few questions about filling sockets in general:
- if i insert a + xx enhanced defence jewel in armor, does the %ED count only for the armordefence itself or for the total of defence? in Ik case, does it grand me xx% over the 1001 def of the armor or over the total defence of the whole set (without its own bonusses)?
- Same a bit for enhanced damage bonusses. do they count for the whole damage im dealing or just for the base dmg of the weapon? does it matter if i stick it in weapon socket or helm socket or whatever?

umm... theres no such thing as a enhanced defense jewel
only jewels that add def i.e. ivory jewel - *60def
the only thing u put in as a socket that adds edef is a pul rune
but in ik armor it will go up only 240def, still better than the def jewel

if u need resist put an UM in the helm...
just for mf i would have got a ptopaz in the armor.. But when it all comes to places its all up to ur personal style of playing.. if u mean u need resist then go resists.. if u need more mf go mf... need more defense get it somewhere else than using up your sockets:D

U need 30 ias in the maul. thats important for the ww dmg, otherwise it wouldnt get the breakpoint... :O

On the topic of using sockets and such, does putting a -requirements jewel lower the level requirement?

If it was me Id put P topaz in the armor and hat and 2x sheal the maul as most people here have said . I put a 40 ed / 18 extra gold jewel in my armor and the damage return is not that much to even worry about . Im gonna crush the jewel and put me a P topaz in there as soon as I get around to it ...

Marcanthi: %ed socketed into anything but your weapon adds on like skill %ed. If you don't know what I'm talking about it might be a good idea to do some research and find out roughly how damage calculations work. Regardless, the maul's damage isn't really big enough to justify throwing ed jewels in your helm or armor.

Muzzy: there's no way of lowering the level requirement of an item. -reqs jewels and Hel rune only apply to str and dex reqs.

The IK set is a great all around PvM adventure set. I always have fun playing my lv90 IK barb. I socket the set like most folks have mentioned. Two shaels in wep and topaz in the rest. If properly made, you should have no problem killing anything PvM. There is a guide for IK barb on this forum. It's def' worth checking out!
