View Full Version : How's this for a FO/ES sorc?

20 Frozen Orb
20 Cold Mastery
1-x ice bolt
4 other prereq's

20 telekinesis
1-x teleport
18 eshield
3 other prereq's

1-x warmth

Should I pump ice bolt for synergy, tele to make it cheaper or warmth for regen? I tend to tele a lot, so that might be the best way to go.

Nightwing's
mara's
death's fathom
35 spirit
arachnid mesh
10 fcr/17 str/4dex/30 ish fire/poison res
soj
es ormus
Sandstorm trek
Frostburns

cta/spirit on switch and 9 eshield, hopefully some cold armor staff in stash

This setup gives you 105 fcr, highest str req of 156, no dex req, unless cta is in a flail, but anni/hellfire will cover that easily plus the nightwing's has dex as well. You also have 75 FHR before charms.

for charms I'll make sure to get at least 11 more FHR, probably from a gc. For charms I can't afford much more than plain skillers, each skiller should add about 30 damage judging by the skill planner (d2skills.com), with level 1 synergy, and 45%increase cold damage (using my 22 fathom, 13 nw and 10 ormus and no facets)

I have 8 skills to divide between tele, warmth and ice bolt if I get to level 85, I cosider that a good one to shoot for. 8 in icebolt gives me about 150 more damage, that's around 20-25 percent increase (the %increased cold damage multiples on top of the synergy). Technically it should be almost 24 percent increase total, I guess.

8 in warmth means 96 faster mana recharge. Someone earlier had posted a nice table on how mana regen helps, so whatever the difference between 222 and 318 is.

tele hits 1 man with 7 additional points, if I were to get to that point, warmth or ice bolt?

Resists will be covered with sockets and charms. Extra sockets get cold facets.

Thanks for your help.

EDIT: damage should be around 750-1000 per shard depending on how much facets and synergy.

Never put more then 1 point in tele or warmth, it's just not worth it.. I'd say go with synergies. By the way, do you just plan to use the ormus to prebuff? I mean a vipermagi might be better, and if ormus is 20% fcr, IIRC you should be able to use 2 sojs.

The Ormus was meant as a permanent armor, but I'm actually kind of leaning towards Vipermagi as well. The idea was that the 10-15 percent boost is better than the skill and extra fcr, which it basically is, even 10 percent adds almost twice as much damage as 1 skill, but I think the other benefits (resists, magic damage reduction) are better, plus the spirit I have right now is only 30 fcr, so I wouldn't have to trade for a better one. Of course the best would be 2 sojs and a 35 fcr spirit, I'll probably rebuild once I get a bit richer.

With the vipermagi I would have

24 (maras) + 34 (vipermagi) + 35 (spirit, all but fire) + 25 fire, 30 lightning (DF) + 30 (quests, but they disappear if you die, which is relevant in PVP of course) + 30 fire, 30 poison (ring) + 20-40 (anni and hellfire) + 54 poison (treks)

that's
33-53 fire without quest
13-33 cold
43-63 lightning
97-117 poison
in hell, without quests. The anni and hellfire will most likely be more towards the low end. I also have a couple of minor single resists on my sc lifers, but it's not much. Since eshield ignores resists for the damage that mana takes, is this good enough? Cold probably needs to be either stacked or is pretty much worthless, so I doubt there's much point in pumping that. With quests, my fire resist is almost maxed even with lowest anni and hellfire, so I would say it's fine as well, as is lightning, which will be useless against foh, but lightning sorcs generally don't have more than -30-40 resist and that's if they are using griffon's, so it would probably help somewhat to bump it up a little. I'm thinking that with one um in either my armor or helm my resists are fine. If things become a problem after I die, I'll rejoin the game.

orbers have low dmg, you have to build around tanking = 90% + ES is a must with max telensis.
you must max:
orb
mastery
tk
es

after that u can put the rest of ur points into icebolt.
you can achive 1.3k+ dmg with this depending on ur gear.

You don't need to Max ES 1st. You don't even need to Max ES, period.

You will probably have ~15 Pts into ES, though. With +1 from BC, +5 from Annihilus & Hellfire Torch, +1 From Arachnid Mesh, +2 from SoJs, +3 from Death's Fathom, +2 from Nightwing's, & +1 from Vipermagi, that adds up to Level 30 ES. With 'Spirit', that's Level 32 ES. Just swap a few Lightning Skillers, when necessary. Usually, I'm too lazy & I just use w/e Level I have.

Also...'Spirit' is a terrible chioce. ES Sorcs will have less than 1.5k Life. Practically all the time. OW will drain your life so fast. Not to mention Venom. So Max Block with Whistan's (which only costs about 70 Pts in Dex if you have decent gear), saves your butt a lot.

& 75 Res in Hell is enough. Your ES should cover you most of the time.

& 60 FHR is enough. You need as much LIfe as you can get so don't waste your Charms on FHR. You rarely get put into FHR animation...unless your Mana is drained. But 60 FHR is sufficient.

Also, try to get your Life to Mana ratio at about 1 to 3-3.5

OT: Just curious, why do I seem to notice a large amount of people making ES Sorcs...?

Why don't you grab 9x lightning gcs, anni, torch for +14 skills, BO for +15 skills, +3 light ammy/circlet for +21 skills, arachs 2x sojs +2armor for +26 all skills, +9 from an ES staff for +35 all skills? Then you only need 5 in ES.. that's for the uber-rich though. :P.

+3ES Ormus and you'll only need 4 more skills.

prebuff is considered bm in most places to duel gm like d2pk on east.
1on1 i consider prebuff bm and most ppl do as well.

plus u only get like 20 more dmg per point into icebolt. u can still reach 1.2k dmg AT LEAST with max ES giving u around 90-92% unprebuffed ES.

Prebuffing ES is BM now...? Wow, what has D2 come to... That's impossible, so Sins can't Prebuff Venom & Barbs & Pallys can't use Enchant? That's ridiculous.

Kire: Having a bit more base Pts in ES is just for a less of a hassle...think about puttign on all that gear to Prebuff...
