i know bp nigma, ap nigma and dusk nigma are very common nigmas, but would a 15ed mage plate make a good nigma?

Yeah, of course. It just really depends how much of a perfectionist you are. The extra bit of defense doesn't really help most of the time, in my opinion.

A 15ED Mage Plate would make a very good Enigma. It's a good balance between defense and strength requirements.
