View Full Version : NFL picks: week 7

Last week, Kelly Holcomb won his second game as the replacement for an ineffective J.P. Losman and helped to put the Bills into a tie for first place in their division at 3-3. So, as promised, this week's poll is all about QB replacement, with it being limited to season-starting starters only.
Last week, our resident firefighter took the top spot with a sparkling 13-1 record, missing only the Steelers game. So I guess he's not a particularly big fan of Maddox either. ;) me^4 and myself followed right behind at 12-2, and Croup and Xoranix take third. Overall, Croup and Xoranix share the lead, with myself one back. axeil, Yaboosh, and BeefChunks are two back of me. Over in the percentage race, Gibbzilla takes the lead after qualifying, with Croup and Xoranix 4% back, with myself 1% behind them. Isolde was out of 12 games last week for missing the Pats/Broncos and the Chargers/Raiders games.

Couple of doozies this week, but the two games of the week are the Steelers/Bengals and Chargers/Eagles. Man, those are going to be tough games. Three-way tie for the worst games of the week, and not-so-coincidentally, they all involve teams from the NFC North. Yucks all around. No bet this year, SBR. Although if (when?) the Pack win, I've got a bet at work where I have to wear a cheesehat, and since there will be pictures, I'll use that for my av for the week.
And a huge note! Chiefs/Dolphins are playing TOMORROW NIGHT, so you can pick that game early and do the rest inbetween Friday and Sunday, otherwise, you don't get credit!
Good luck everyone!
Well it looks like picking the home team is pretty effective. Let's see how I do this week, for toss up games the home team will be selected.

It says on NFL.com that it'll be broadcast on CBS in Miami and KC markets, otherwise it'll be tape-delayed for NFL Network Sunday night.

On this one, I pick Zona if McCown starts, Tennessee if Warner starts.
Who would've ever thought the Bungals would be game of the week?
By the way, anyone who is picking David Carr in that poll is just straight up wrong. He's completely limited to three step drops and rollouts because his offensive line can't protect him for ****. Dominick Davis is trying to move the team along, but the line can't run block for him either. Carr's be sacked something like 31 times in 5 games. That's *6* per game. Carr is NOT to blame for how bad Houston is doing.
The offensive line changed 4 starters (out of 5) from Week 5 to Week 6. Have fun David. Not your fault.

picks and rants... (because im drunk and this is a free country dammit)
Kansas City Chiefs at Miami Dolphins
hey trent green -- say hello to a real defense
Detroit Lions at Cleveland Browns
the lions are the better team, but they lose anyway just to insure joey heismans spot on the bench
Green Bay Packers at Minnesota Vikings
fred smoot is sending a prostitute to the packers sideline in an attempt to distract favre -- too bad for the vikes that the hooker could have been their starting RB
Indianapolis Colts at Houston Texans
david carr has installed pedestrian airbags in his uniform
New Orleans Saints at St. Louis Rams
when bulger marches back in, ill pick the rams
Pittsburgh Steelers at Cincinnati Bengals
good news natti, youre the real deal -- bad news burghers, the natti KNOWS they are real
San Diego Chargers at Philadelphia Eagles
oh how impressive the chargers looked last week downing the moss-less faiders -- better watch a tape of last weeks game bolt heads (if you want to cheer that is)
San Francisco 49ers at Washington Redskins
last week, forty people showed up to protest the redskins-chiefs game -- forty-nine people will show up to protest this one, but screaming at a ball and carrying signs wont win a football game
Dallas Cowboys at Seattle Seahawks
half of the cowboys team will be watching the world series (and so will i)
Baltimore Ravens at Chicago Bears
i was going to pick the ravens, but id rather pick my nose
Buffalo Bills at Oakland Raiders
the choakland faiders trip, slip on the floor, and accidentally beat buffalo -- OOPS!
Denver Broncos at N.Y. Giants
i cant stand denver, so theyll win
Tennessee Titans at Arizona Cardinals
didnt the st louis cardinals just lose? -- oops, wrong city but same results
N.Y. Jets at Atlanta Falcons
vinny recaptures his youth by throwing 4 INTs just like he used to as a young bucc
I can't believe anyone picked collins or favre to sit out. Both are amazing quarterbacks crippled by poor receiving/lines.

Ditto. I would have defended them too, but as SBR can attest, last year was my anti-anti-Favre people rant, and Carr is a more inviting target that doesn't deserve it.

Tennessee Titans at Arizona Cardinals
I've got pick atleast one 'underdog'...

Good Luck on your picks guys
Croup, why won't you just go away? You're tied with me here, and in the non-OTF fantasy league you're in first. I'm gonna have to break away this week.
Chiefs over Dolphins
Browns over Lions
Packers over Vikings
Colts over Texans
Rams over Saints
Bengals over Steelers
Eagles over Chargers
Redskins over 49ers
Seahawks over Cowboys
Bears over Ravens
Raiders over Bills
Giants over Broncos
Cards over Titans
Falcons over Jets

If you want me to go away, then stop copying my picks!! The only game we have different this week is Raiders vs Bills. Heh.
And I have to make up in that other league for my horrid performance in the OTF League. So you're not dethroning me their either. Nyuh.
I am picking the Kansas City Chiefs to win on Friday night. I'll make the rest of my picks when I have more time.
I picked Carr due to the fact he will break the numerical barrier of sacks and will have to be carted off the field to avoid him murdering his entire O-line. They'll proably sit him for a week or 3 to prevent murder and/or him breaking every bone in his body.

This is acceptable rational for taking Carr out. I've just heard way too many people blaming Carr for how the Texans are playing, and it's definitely not fair to him.
At this rate, he'll have as many concussions as Steve Young, with a third of the playing time.

I too feel sorry for David Carr i mean geez, this guy has had more sacks against him than Peyton Manning has had in 3 years... 3 YEARS!!! I wouldnt be surprised if he gets benched this week, or the next but I certainly dont think he'd be benched for lack of production (well he has as least tried to be productive), but he has been running for his life all year and no QB in the NFL could do much with the Texans except for maybe Michael Vick (who is more suited as a runningback anyways :p ). The Texans troubles arent because of David Carr, however i wouldnt blame the Texans organization for trying to save the life of there QB.
If i was the Texans head coach Id put in there 3th or 4th stringer and start working for next year :uhhuh:

MIKE SHERMAN IS A BLASTED IDIOT!!! First half the Packers defense is stunting and blitzing and causing all kinds of trouble for Calpepper, and what do they do in the 2nd half? THE COMPLETELY OPPOSITE THING!!! And his offensive play calling is horrendous. 3rd and 2 with the best QB in Packers history (and one of the best all time) in a hot streak, and they call the draw? Your playing a rival team you should cram it down their throats! And looking at him on the sidelines didn't help either, so emotionless! This is your make or break game of the season.
Here it is, they are now 1-5 with Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, and now a momentum bearing Vikings after that. I hope he really likes his 1-9 start! All the Milwaukee media here are blasting his playcalling (offensive and defensive), and the call in show I'm listening to the fans are irrate.
GOOD ****ING JOB MIKE SHERMAN! MORON!!!
Sorry Freet/Doc but this rant deserves swearing!

You know, for the right price, I might let your picks count. :wink2:
I don't have anything to say about the Vikes. I was flipping between Mythbusters and the game, and when I saw it was 17-0 at half, I played a little PS2 before the afternoon games started. Imagine my surprise when my brother told me they won on a 56 yard field goal.
I still have zero faith in Tice turning this team around, since they've finished the season 3-7 for the last two years in a row, and I doubt Tice has anything up his sleeve to change that. Super Bowl tickets, maybe. But no master plan of any kind.
Hey Rafty, I'm gonna be out of town this week so I PM'ed my picks to you. Feel free to publically post them in the next thread. I doubt I'll be home before the 1 PM games kick off.
