plz help me getting better gear

hey im going a sorc, legit and untwinked
ive just killed hell meph, im lvl 81, i wanna start looking for some decent gear...but untill im done, im having a hard time...

meph takes too long to kill, evading his minions has become quite a pain too (and dangerous), where else can a poor man go MF and get some better harvest per time production?

whats better: 15 minutes mephing with 150%MF (and possibly more if i happen to get killed) or some dungeon (pit?, mauso? name it plz) with 300%MF?

i wonder if i am the only one who plays legit and untwinked, the game can be very hard sometimes, i start to think LoD is not designed to play this way since 1.10, cast a spell 15 times to kill sumthin and gettin wasted too often is very frustrating, makes me wanna play my barb =(

i hope its just me being too lowly equipped...used to like sorcs, now i think they are TOO item dependant

Go run NM Meph and find yourself Occy, Vipermagi, and other mid-level goodies. Then give Hell Meph another shot. Are you using the moat trick against Meph? If you are a Blizz sorc, give Ancient Tunnels (Act 2 Lost City) a try since there are no cold immunes there.

15 minutes per run? Are you killing everything in durence of 2 instead of simply holding down your right mouse on teleport? If you can't tele safely, there are lots of thread on how to do it. For starters, get yourself a spirit sword (easier than Occy by a lot), Insight polearm for merc (if you decide to use him), Lore helm, stealth armor (25% FCR), spirit shield if going vita (might be a bit harder compared to the rest), or rhyme if not. FCR/resist rings and ammy are nice too.

All the runes can be acquired at nm countress fast. (estimated maximum of 1 hour) If you have problem running her...... I don't know.

Finally, if you think sorc is item dependent, look at my pally. Although he is a budget build compared to others, but it took more to equip him than my sorc.

And by legit and untwinked, does it mean no trading?

well, thx for all replies guys...
it was all my fault, im quite poor but i was playin horribly bad, and that was it...
i played my sorc for a short time then on hell meph and i got used to her, i was using the wrong skills for meph, and did i mention i was playin terribly?
now runs are reasonably faster, its doable ok, say 5-10 mins...maybe getting a raven frost on the 1st run helped a lot too (dont have to worry for his skull missile anymore)...i was also using the wrong equipment, man im a moron.

one last thing, whats that moat thing?
i use to tele all lvl2, then on lvl3 i tele to the right or left room, and then clear the one with less guys (usually one of them has only 1 boss, dragonhand or voidbringer, if both have bloodlords too i choose the less crowded...damn i hate those guys!)...

ill try if theres a way of no killin that council member, it can save like 2-3 mins per run, specially if there are annoying bloodlords...

btw untwinked means no trading, not even trade between my own characters (playing single player and w/o item storing via editors)...all the realm and twink stuff got me bored at last...its way more enjoyable to play at a cheat-free environment, and it rocks when you are poor and happen to find some cool stuff...although the game is a lot harder. try it sometime.

I just can't stand there being only 3 socket rewards...... I also can't stand using a crappy bow (not even Skystrike) in late nm. I could say that I am pretty legit (no high runes for me), but I don't think I can stand SP now, even with ATMA.

certainly what i dislike most of SP is not having only 3 socket quest rewards, the worst part is when you are a sorc and happen to find some high end item for another class, it hurts to trash such good (but useless) items...

i used to store and twink everything (items, runes, even gems!), then i found my new and greatly equiped characters were quite boring to play...all treasure hunt stuff (a very important part of the game) was over since the very begining, no challenge...just skill placement and ravaging thru, was fun once, not anymore...thus, i dont suffer from lag or thieves anymore (such pains in those days!)

Basically, you "wake up" Meph and lure him down to the left of where the portal to Act 4 is. Then you teleport across the moat. Run away so that you're far enough away he can't attack, but close enough you can see his "base". Now use whatever spell you have to kill him. After he dies, teleport back over and collect the loot.

getting meph struck because of the moat and then make it so that he gets trapped on the top edge of the screen requires so space that half the level (where the middle council boss is) would need to be cleared (at least killing that boss and very probably several vampires too)...dont know if its worthy...

i usually fight him near to where he is waiting...its almost always clear, and having avoided the council guys, theres no annoyances left, just meph...and you got enough room to fight him, just stay inside 1 or 1.5 screens, just straight north of the portal...

the council guys could kill me if they happen to be in company of too many vampsuckers and deadly moded...meph cant kill me
