Hi,
I'm going to start up some HCCL with some friends again and have some questions. First of all, do keys and uber trist and what not still exist? Or is that LoD only?
Secondly, I'm really stuck on what character to build. Do you guys have any recommendations for some builds that aren't really item dependent that aren't your average cookie cutter build?
Thanks.

No keys in classic. No Uber Trist in classic or single player.

Okay, thanks. Any character recommendations? Right now I'm thinking about building a Orb Sorc with TS and maybe a Frost Zealot. Any suggestions?

Static field can take monsters down to a tiny bit of health, so that is very useful. That is the sum total of my knowledge about classic I'm afraid! Oh I do know something else, javs don't drop. So javazons would be hard I imagine.

Yep....don't die
On a more serious note though, Orb Sorc with TS is reasonable.

Okay, thanks. I'm going to be building a Orb Sorc with probably TS to complement (Do you think I should have TS or should I scrap it?) and have some questions. First of all, do you guys recommend putting any skills into ES? Secondly, what stats (Specific numbers?) should I aim for?
Thanks.

If you go ES I don't think you'll have enough points left for TS. And I don't think ES is viable in Classic unless it's 1 point with + skills, because you don't have charms to give you 1k+ mana...
Anyway, if you're going Hardcore I would say, get as much life as you can and put a point into Frozen Armor. It can save your life if you ever get swarmed...

Lol uber trist to classic chars is like unleashing 5x diablos on level 1's.

Okay, thanks. How much dex and str do you require? Like, what figures should I am for? Also, I'm assuming no mana right?
Thanks!

Enough to wear your gear. 51 Dex is min for using Spectral Shard. 55 Str is required for Mage Plate.

Yes I do have recommendations: the dinamic trio, barb/pala/sorc. I dunno how many you guys are but I'd say 1 barb, 1-3 palas, 1 sorc. If you got a team of more then 5 then 3 palas 2 sorc or so. This isn't lod so the barb doesn't have to be merely a bo biotch. Outside of CS he can be almost as fast a killing machine as the hammerdin. Put the best player on the sorc, as he represents the team's mobility, though he can bring some hefty dmg too thats not his main function. This is what I recomend. No fancy stuff just pure ownage.

Javazons are one of the least gear intensive builds on classic, and decently effective toboot. Just use irathas, twitch, pdia shield, and a plain jav (like the one you start with.)
Another suggestion I would make is a mace mf barb. Use a bonesnap until you can afford a better weapon, and mf all the time. Irathas also pwns this build for cheap, and you would want skins/rcage and res boots/gtoes depending on whether or not you have trouble staying alive.

Thanks. I'm going to make a sorc for my first char so I can do SoJ runs and what not. First of all, do you recommend I go with ES or not? This is going to be HC so I'm seriously considering it. Also, how does this build look:
20 Orb
20 CM
20 TS
20 TM
1 Warmth
1 Teleport
1 Static
What else do you guys recommend I put points into? Should I put points into ES and one of the cold armors? HELP!
Thanks.

I would not go with ES. It can kill you easily instead of saving your life. A bunch of lightning bolts from Act4 Gloams and bang! Manaless Sorceress. Also your skill choice don't leave room for it. Considering 5 pre-reqs for Orb and 5 for TS thats 93 skills with your config above. That don't leave enough room to spend on ES. If you want to spend a point it it and benefit from + skills get a Nightsmoke belt. It ads nice bonuses and converts half the damage you take to Mana. This will work only for physical attacks though, so use ES at your own risk. As I said before a point into Frozen Armor won't hurt...

Okay, thanks. Do you think that that build will fare okay though?
I gotta disagree here. TS is useless IMO. I'd stick with single elemental sorc with the only exception being the orb/static combo. Thats an old school classic build that still works fine. Other than that pure blizzard or pure meteor/fireball. I'd also use a fully synergized ES as I've said before the sorc is the team's mobility so she needs to be tough. You can check out my guide in the guide section for more.

Just saw post #8 here and thought I'd give it a try as it seems like he's doing fine...

Sorry I failed to read your first post. If you intend to play along with other people, it's better build a single element Sorceress as you will have more power to kill in 8 player games and plenty of people around to kill imunes. Fredsta's build was designed to play solo.

Well, I'll be doing a little bit of both, solo and party play. But I would probably like it if I could solo. Anyways, let's say I do build a single elemental sorc and I happen to be soloing, what would I do if I ran across that specific immune?

People that know Hell well just teleport by and go to CI free areas, mostly to Magic Find, or levelling. Out of that, you're screwed. If you intend to do both I would go for dual ele. I personally like my chars to be flexible, despite my next Sorceress going to be a pure cold. :)
Meteorb build works well enough. Max orb, 10-20 cold mastery/ rest in meteor and synergies. Orb doesn't need many points to work well.

Meteor is horrible to use in Classic. Better stay with Orb/Fireball then.

We do actually have to occasional run-in with uber dia. And we can kill him aswell. Granted, it takes some time and a Prevent Monster Heal weapon somewhere in the mix, but we can do it aswell.
Though indeed I would not like to have to face all three of the ubers in a tight spot like Tristram with my chars. :)
Though it may just be a matter of tactics, res and practice.
With their amount of life, you will probably get all the practice you want out of a single session.
