View Full Version : PvM Fishymancer - Viable in Hell?
I got bored and decided to make a Fishymancer (Summoner) with the extra stuff I'd been saving on my mules. At Level 51, here's what he wears:
Helm: Wurmskull
Weapon: Gravespine
Shield: The Ward
Armor: Silks of the Victor
Gloves: Frostburn
Boots: Treads of Cthon
Belt: Goldwrap
Amulet: +1 to Necro skills
Rings: Nagelring (28%, 26%)
Total +Skills: 5
Stats: 80 Str, Base Dex, Base Energy, Rest to Vit
Skills:
Summoning:
20 Raise Skeleton
20 Raise Skeletal Mage
3 Skeleton Mastery
1 Clay Golem
1 Blood Golem
1 Iron Golem
1 Fire Golem
1 Revive
1 Golem Mastery
1 Summon Resistance
Poison and Bone:
1 Teeth
1 Corpse Explosion
Curses:
1 Amplify Damage
1 Weaken
1 Iron Maiden
1 Terror
1 Decrepify
1 Life Tap
Total points: 58
With the skills, obviously, 20 to Skellies and Mages was pretty obvious. I figured that I should probably raise Skelly Mastery, but what level is respectable enough in Hell Mode? Same question goes for with Summon Resist.
Also, getting my first minion in Hell Mode is, for lack of a better term, hell. My Fire Golem alone can't take on two Fallen Ones in Blood Moor. Any suggestions?
Next, I've been noticing that using Amp Damage in some places may actually hurt your army more than help. Can someone tell me which curses would be most effective in the correct places?
Another thing...is it worth to stick a point into Bone Armor, Bone Wall, and Bone Prison? And would it make my life easier if I stuck a point into Poison Dagger and Poison Explosion to get to Poison Nova?
So many questions....but I've only been playing for a month...aka, still a newb....HELP PLEASE!!!
Unfortunately, summoning necros really aren't hell viable. They are in LoD with high level might mercs but amplify damage alone isn't enough for your summons to kill anything. What might help is putting points in corpse explosion. Since you're casting amp anyway, CE is helped a great deal by that curse. I've only ever played a summon necro in LoD, but over there it's advisable to max raise skeleton and skeleton mastery only and leave mages alone.

Yeah, their viable. The problem is getting the corpses in the first place, if you want to solo.
So, yeah, youll need some way of getting the bodies. A weak bone spirit is 1 option, but a more fun option, which i reccomend- is making a melee mancer. I posted my melee mancer build a while back, try the search function for more, or shoot me a pm.

What about using Attract on a minion in the middle of a pack?

Due to monsters dmg//life ratio, they will not kill their "attracted" friends fast. Thats why revives are not very good other than being meat shields

If anything:
Attract + Bone Wall + Iron Maiden
Just thought of it now, don't know how effective it actually is.
And Fred, I remember you giving me that Commandomancer setup. I'm working on a hybrid that uses poison ^.^
A pvm necro can be very powerful IF you use him to do what he does well: support. The necro has terrible killing speed, even the poison necro. No decent party wants a meat shield because it's not needed and it lags. However what the necro can do is help others kill by using his curses. Once the first corpses are down use corpse explosion. CE alone gives the necro awesome power. The rest of your points you might aswell put into a bone armor. Just a different way to play a necro.

Kinda off-topic, but I knew about the CE support already...which is why I only raise Fire Golem when in a party to pull monsters to dead corpses and blast the heck outta them.
My PvM Necro was built mainly for SOLOING any difficulty, but it looks like I should've maxed Skeleton Mastery before Mages and probably put more points into Summon Resist.
As for Bone Armor, with my huge meat shield and high blocking from my actual shield, I find it useless to stick points into the skill since I wouldn't be using it's synergies anyway. Besides, Bone Armor gets it's durability from it's synergies, Bone Wall and Bone Prison, and just putting points into Bone Armor alone is a waste.

I just posted my updated commandomancer guide, its imo the best summoner necro available (and it IS hell viable, very much so)

A few to summon resist, fire golem is worth 1 point. Your true killers are high lvl skel mastery/RS/Amp

Fire golem wont make any kills unless he is maxed with a nice lvl Lower resist. Kill some other way. I would suggest a maxed bspirit with 1 synergy (prison) maxed also.
An iron golem made out of an bsnap also gets the kills (and transfers from diffirent games with you) Meh. 200ed bsnaps are expendable :D
Another thing you can do is melee with ow/cb

I started one of these in Ladder, but it doesn't look so impressive. The Summoner killed me 3 times and at level 21, Duriel is untouchable. Maybe it helps going for Decrep at level 24? Lvling this thing is boring...

Iron Golem transfers between games? I honestly didn't think that worked in classic. Does he transfer between acts as well?

It transfers through games but not acts. So... stick to 1 act runs for a while :D

Thats just plain Ghetto
Lol, why was this thread brought up again? My Poison Commandomancer was the ending result of this idea, and you can find the guide sticked at the top of the page.
However, I do like the idea of using a Fire Golem, but for different purposes. If I ever get through this mountain of college paperwork, then I'll be making a new Necro based around Fire Golem, so be on the lookout for it.

My current Necro is an LOM which will have a Fire Golem when it reaches level 30.
Here's something you should do with Fire Golem:
DO max it out.
DO max out Golem Mastery.
DO max out Lower Resist.
DON'T put anything in Summon Resist (this way your Golem will absorb fire).
DO decide on what kind of Necro you want to build before you start.
Any questions?

i have a fishymancer at the moment he is lvl 77 in act 2 hell i have maxed RS/SM/SM and corpse explosion just to get that extra distance with the explosions (it really clears crowded rooms well when used in conjunction with amp damage. I have the white rune word which improves my skellies. I also have a lvl 77 might merc which helps improve my skellies and pretty much in open areas have no problems in dealing with monsters, however the one thing i am finding difficult is the hell maggot lair.
I have the white rune word...

Heh, I just read it as 'I have the white rune sword".
Then I thought, why would you imbue such a weapon with a necro...
Oh wait. :)
