Question about %fire dmg

I read in a guide here that fire facets and lighting facets are useless because they just add onto the mastery % and dont really give +5% more dmg. Is this true with an item such as eschutas? Is the +% fire dmg on eschutas useless?

Correct. They're not useless, they just don't add as much damage. You're still getting more damage (and with facets, -% resistance), but possibly not as much as you would from other equipment.

It's true that +fire/light dmg isn't that useful on fire/light sorcs (since it's added to mastery bonus which already is like +300-500%dmg) but -res from facet can improve damage a good deal depending on resists a monster has.

Say if a monster has 90% fire resist and you have two items with -5 fire res facets then the monster would have 80% fire res so basically you do double damage :p. Mostly the change isn't nearly as dramatic but -res can improve damage a good deal.

There are various equipment combinations that can be used on light sorc and will work. Some evolve around hoto, some around eschutas, some around other orbs and even staves.
