I've been building a summonmancer who is now lvl 48 in act 3. As I have very low resists, I've been dying to the hydras of the council members several times. Should I put on gear to increase my resists and sacrifice the plus skills from my items? I'm worried about whether my skellies will be able to kill fast from lesser plus skills.
Btw, what cheap gear (I'm a poor bloke) do you guys recommend for some mfing with some balance in resists and mf?

Summon your skeletons, and after that you equipp the resist gear.
this way you get the best of both at the low cost of a missing skeleton. :)

You can also use your mana shield...err Clay golem to absorb damage for you. Just recast it between you and the hydras until they're gone. They're pretty tough guys and can soak up a few fireballs before you have to recast them.

Smoke is a great cheap armor that my summoner just finished soloing hell with.
50 res all, along with a 30 fire res ring and a 30 light res ring and some extra resistances from boots/gloves, solved all his resistance problems. He gets +7 to summoning skills from wand, helm, ammy and shield. With all those skellies, revives and CE he can handle pretty much anything in hell, though sometimes I need to switch on blackhorn's face for those souls.

Shako with a um in it gives nice mf and ok resistances. also homunculas head gives good skillz and resists socket with perfect diamond or um for res with all 3 skill quests it should stop you from gettin fried.
Elemental damage is basically only thing that kills my summoner (unless i do a stupid mistake like tryin to malee somethin) so try and get max res in hell then you wont get your butt kicked
