View Full Version : The Light Sorc - Help? :)

I plan to be making a light sorc and I was wondering if I could get some help with my itamz.

First of all, my budget is quite ok. I had a blizzard sorc but I'm starting to dislike and I'm considering switching to Light sorc (For all 3 key runs, and possibly baal runs.)

If I DO do baal runs, I guess that means I need to implement MF into my build.

Helmet: Shako PT'ed. Should I bother buying a griffons considering the expense? I have two shakos, might as well use em!

Armour: Vipermagi 34 PTed, should I get an Ormus? Can't see any major alternative shere. I COULD go for tal Amu/armour/belt though no?

Belt: No arachnid mesh, but I can get one if I trade one of my shakos which wouldn't be a problem at all :) I use snowclash on my blizzard sorc, but I really wuold prefer arachnid. Got 15% tal belt too, mana might be good.

Boots: Rare 25 MF boots with 3 different res (The 3 mains). I'm using 48 wts on my MF baba.

Gloves: Yelopen suggest's magefists, is the FCR that necessary or can I go chancies? Then again, if I'm going to key run I won't even need the mf from chancies!

Orb: Oculus atm, but I could try and find 3/xx eschutas if its so necessary.

Shield: Stormshield, I want to go block (will seriously help) so Spirit Monarch is not an option...unless block isn't really necessary but I seriously beg to differ!

Charms: NO Light skillers, NO anni, NO torch. Gonna be mf/life/mana/res charms here, thats all. Sorry folks!

Rings : 1 soj, 1 fcr/95 mana ring ;) I like these both so I probably won't be changing.

don't jknow what else I'm missing so the main questions are:

Should I go for the Tal Combo? I can probably gather the runes + funds to buy the set! already got 15% Tal belt after all.
SHould I get MF and am I viable enough to do Baalruns without infinity?
If I do key runs only, pure speed right?

Thanks guys, please comment on the gear :)

Edit: Just made Lvl 17 Med Aura Insight for my merc :) Don't want to put any points into energy.

Thanks for mentioning me :D

Anyways, your FCR looks fine. 90 should be enough (assuming you get Arach), although people like to hit 105 (I think that's the BP).

Your MF should be fine, skills are good enough, but resist might be a little low.

You only have about 70 resist all+ 30 from Anyas= 100 resist all= 0 resist all in hell. Try working on it, get an ammy with resist all and +sorc/light skills maybe.

You might have some trouble solo'ing hell baal, unless you have a nice merc. For keys, this should be fine.

As for Mage/Chancies, its really your choice, if you are having trouble tele'ing to baal wth chancies, then switch for Magefist. If you are getting really bad items and 90 FCR works fine, then switch for Chancies.
BTW, Trang glove might work better than Mage.

I'm not sure but I guessing you might have a tiny bit of mana problems even with Insight. Maybe try getting some points into mana, maybe 10. If you're starting to notice tons of mana problems before, or even after insight, try putting some points in energy.

Hope I helped!!!

EDIT: I would not go to Tal Combo since it will drop your cast by 50 which is WAYYYY too low.

I think your MF is good for now.

Shako (PT)= 74
Viper (PT)= 24
Boots= 25
Gull Dagger+Rhyme (fairly cheap, maybe you already have it)= 125
_______________________________________
248 MF+ charms= probably like 260-270 MF.

Should be enough. Remember, for Baal, FCR+Damage+Speed > MF. Doing one run every 5 minutes with 270 MF, IMO is better than doing one run every 7 minutes, dieing once everytime, with 500 MF.

I'd definitely add light skillers and at least a crap sorc torch - that would help your damage a whole lot.

I don't know how much mana you'll have endgame but mana issues are possible too (depending on your max mana), unless you'll only use lightning but not chain lightning.

I'd definitely try to reach 105 fcr bp, it just makes teleing so much faster and safer.

And finally - this build will be a good key runner but I'm not so sure it would work well in solo baalruns, mostly due to low resists. And souls of course.

Usually when I make lightsorc I prefer ES/light build which uses ES for defense and at the same time I put most or all pts into energy so I can cast spells easily. Then I can use any kind of weapon on merc, not just Insight (Infinity being the best possible option here).

Thanks for the input you two, great help

As for resist, since I don't have many MF charms I'll be stacking res on charms. Hoping to get a sorc torch (got some more keys and need a lil bit more) or even a 20 res torch which I can use on my sorc.

Light skillers are a tad too costly when I could be spending it on other points where I could be improving :) But I'd probably try to reach the 105 BP.

150 mf is usually my optimum, I'm not that greedy!

I'm REALLY going to try avoid using energy points since I've got so much in str/dex anyway and I want to keep about 500 hp ATLEAST! Which I should be able to easily achieve as I have 800~ on my blizz sorc iwth max block. I've also got plenty of +40 +25 mana charms and some with both life and mana :D

I'm gonna aim for better resists of course. As for tal combo, right, thanks for the tip. My friend uses tal combo so I wasn't too sure.

I'll do a variation of key running + TRY to do baal runs, if I can get my res up high then I'll pump the *** out of my merc to beat them immunities up.

cheers guys, I'll also try doing a 1pointer in ES but I don't want to go es/light as i want to maximize my damage :)

cheers fellas again, great help.

Same here :-) I’m quite fed up with my blizz sorc, although all my "wealth" was generated by her

Ill answer in points :-)

1. Shako seems to be the ultimate "all-round" caster helm and has mf so I would stick to shako. Compared to Griffons it is also the poor mans choice, even an ummed one :-)

2. viper seems to be the most reasonable choice here, it helps with resists a lot so unless you are going for pure damage I would stick to vipermagi. Also the fcr on it is better than ormus fcr, correct me if im wrong...

3. My light sorc currently uses the arachnid mesh and it really helps her damage wise but for an mf sorc talbelt, particularly a 15% one is a good choice. Great bonus to dexterity on it helps you reach max block.

4. Chancies for mf, Trang gloves for leveling - these are both great. 30 cold res on trang gloves makes it a viable end-game choice of gloves for key- and rune-hunting.

5. Eschuta is great for damage, but oculus seems to be a better choice here - it gives resists and up tp 74 mf if you ptopaz it :D
Eschuta has no resist on it so it is not a good idea to use it unless you a lot of res charms and preferably anni and torch.

6. Get a Torch - any torch, the 3 skills on it help a lot.

7. No reason to change rings obviously

8. with 17 lvl medi insight there is no need for you to invest any points into energy IMO. You will not use mana pots at all, even when spamming CL. I know I dont....

Good luck with your sorc.

All good points I think, except you shouldn't put a topaz in a weapon if you want mf. They add lightning damage in a weapon. Don't waste a socket quest unless you're prepared to stick an ist in.

Yes - the ptopaz part was a joke :-)
But, I guess its good you clarified that in case someone didn't know

mf or all res jewels are also good options for socketing the oculus.
