I've killed Baal in Nightmare with my first Necro(Summonmancer). He's level 56.

If anyones interested it played out like this:
After defeating all those guys that Baal summons upstairs I took my remaining minions to Baal's room and onto that 'bridge' think he stands on. I threw up a TP and went to Act1 to replace my merc and minions. I came back through the portal right next to Baal. I had to get out of his way quickly, thankfully my minions started pouring out of the portal and surrounded him. I cast decrep to give him and slow down and hit him with a clay golum. He back up to the far wall (maybe so less skelies could gather around him, I don't know if he's that clever). He sometimes hit me with that blue wedge shaped projectile but I had ample health potions. It seemed all over for Baal when his clone droped in and my minions divided to attack the clone. All was still in my favor until the clone ralised it was me casting decrep and basicly running the show. He ignored my minions and made a B-line for me. I backed up into the corner against the wall, there was nowhere to run. I cast more decrep and considered re-casting my gollum between me and the clone. His flamethrower thing was missing me by a pixle when he colapsed. My minions redoubled their efforts an the real Baal and I got back away from the action but out of Baal's general line for fire. Not long after that Baal colapsed. I pick up all the stuff he droped which turned out to be junk. I exited the game and was awarded with the screen where Cain tell you that yout are a champion.

Now on to Hell mode! Should be fun, I'm hooking up with a friend who has a level 70ish Bowazon.

Zon's will probably love you. Amp = +damage. Skeles = tanks.

in Hell mode,My CE summonner is getting his arse deep fried & handed to him along with BBQ sauce. :(

My gear sucks-My resists are like -80 a ravenfrost & goldwrap are the only uniques I am wearing & I have got crappy rears. Ohh dear..I need some decent gear. :(

Ohh...Gratz on beating NM btw.

i have only died to andy (dam her poison). and was wearin a 3 pd troll nest and various rares id picked up along the way. total +summoning was 2 . ammy+culwens point.

ive aquired much better gear since then tho.

it is a lil slow with virtually no gear tho. Find a homuncalus or trade for one (i bought it for 10 pgs). get as much +skillz as u can alot of the cheap pieces are easy to trade for.

Only elemental damage should kill you

If resists are a problem, why are you wearing goldwrap?

I have maxed resists in hell, untwinked. Smoke runeword, rare rings, ammy, boots, gloves, a couple of which are + res all. It's not hard.

EDIT: I also play hardcore, so that may have something to do with it. I didn't beat normal Baal until level 53, and NM Baal until 76.

Or, head back to NM and do some MFing. Duriel's shells are frightfully common drops for a MFer as are Tal's masks. Both are excellent equips for Hell survival. Or just trade gems for those or other good, cheap items like a low Vipermagi.

My summoner took out NM Baal last night too, and he's cruising quite nicely through Act 1 Hell. He's got the benefit of a Sugar Mama though, my 91 Sorc, so he's decked out pretty well.

So as I said I would I teamed up with my friend the bowazon(Pen Pen) and we embarked on hell mode together. Basicly all I did was follow him around and revive bodies. After a little while Pen Pen started to avoid me. He soon told me that all of my minions were anoying. He couldn't tell what was an enemy, couldn't aim or dodge. He kept getting killed coz he couldn't see things coming. So I switched to my lvl80 Barb and we were cool again.

So I've decided to keep my necro for single player for the forseeable future.

Pen Pen sounds a bit odd, it's easy to tell the difference with them being solid black. Besides he should be behind the safe revive wall, he shouldn't even need to worry about dodging just doing damage. Curious...

I would agree. Bowies should just stay behind the massive wall of minions and kill there.

Congrats - completing act 5 is always a good milestone.
I've not seen this mentioned anywhere else, so I'll mention it now. I find that if you tp out, go and get healed, top up your potions etc, the clone is gone when you go back. If you go in and out too quickly, it's still there, but a minute seems more than enough and Baal doesn't regenerate much in that time span.

Lastly, the accepted wisdom is to start hell around level 70. You might like to do some Baal runs etc until you get a bit stronger.

Good luck

Yeah, Pen Pen is a bit of a weird-o, epesially because he plays the 'hide behind a valkyrie' method.

I'm now lvl76 and just starting Act3. Andarial was no problem. The maggot lair was a pain as usual, but the fight at the end was worth it. The arcain santuary was not too hard because of my mages shooting accross the gaps, and reviving those ghostie things. The lightning towers were a problem, they kept shooting me from off screen. Durial went down faster than a.....express evevator, he had no chance.

My necro is showin no sign of slowing down. IMO the summoner is he cheezyest build ever, it's almost too easy. But then I do have 11 skeletons, 11 mages, 11 revives a fire gollum and a merc, totaling 35 minions. I call the build cheesemancer.

Any pop, I'm going to kep blasting through the game until I hit a wall, which wil pob be diablo.

You wish! Hell D is not that much of a problem as long as your merc has some CB. He doesn't do that much to the skeles, and less if you have revives to tank for you.

When I was playing 0.07, I found that nmDiablo was a real challange. Heo would kill most of my minions before the had a chance to run up and attack. It took seveal trips to other levels to replenish minions before he died. The nmAncients were also a problem. The killed all 60+ of my minions and were barely scrached.

However.....

When I upgraded to 1.10, the same character was able to take the nmAncients with very few casulties. And the rest is history.

So, the reason I fear hellDiablo is bacause nmDiablo gave me such a hard time, and hellDiablo gave my Barb a real hard time.

Summoner has a huge buff from 1.10. They become one of the most overpowered class. (other than the hammerdin) Hell D and ancients would be lucky to kill off 1/2 of your skeles. Usually, 0~2 dies at most.

Act 3 was totally easy until I had to fight the council in Travincial. That was a bit of a challenge because of the largish number of decent enemies and the terrain. Having them hold up in a building is a big advantage to them coz I am unable to mob them. Mephisto was no problem and he gave me a light sabre which I gave to my Barb (who has no been surpassed by my Necro).

Act 4 was rather easy except for those white wispy things that shoot lightning. They shoot from off screen so I can't dodge them and the lightning goes through my minions so I've got nothing to hide behind. The rest of the act was no problem, Diablo was dead before he put on foot in the level.

Act 5. Those levels with the tranches and fortifications are a pain to guild 30+ idiots through, a quick TP gets them back in line. The Ancients were my longest boss battle yet. I surrounded the one with the axe straight off. I used decrep and clay golem to slow up the action. My only concern was to keep the curses going and keep out of the way of those barbs. Mawdawc with his stone skin was the last man standing. Killing him was a very slow process. I got sniped by sone lightning in WSK2, collected my precious body and decided to call it a morning.

I'm level 81 and have about 17 unused skill points. There's lots of useful things I could spend them on but I don't need to. My minions are in top form and arn't going to get much tougher. I haven't bothered doing any of the side-quests, maybe I'll go back and do them sometime.

Ahhhhh!

I've finally met my match. I was cocky before but now I've been humbled by Hell-Baal. The good news is he dosen't do as much damage to me as I thought he would. The bad news is that he can take a huung pounding. The problem is not so much that he kills my minions, I think they could handle him. The problem is that he kills my necro thus killing everyone. He's very hard to stay safe from. That big blue wave attack hits me every time. I can't even hide behind a post coz the wave seems to wrap around it. Furthermore, Baal's clone know who I am. He ignores my minions and comes straight for me. Is that normal for Baal's clone?

I suppose all I can do is level up to boot my vitality and take lots of big purple potions.

Question: Should I max my fire golum and use that on him or use the clay golum for the slowability factor? I already use decrep and amp damage. I'm reluctant to try bone spirt or anything like that coz I have enough trouble staying alive. What about giving Baal a bone prison? Thjat may help to keep him under wraps.

Gumby + decript should make him only use 3 attacks. Melee, tentacles, and fire nova. If you have trouble killing him, get your merc ANY crushing blow gear. Baal will go down in 1 minute.

waflob
09-11-2005, 13:44
not only that, but you need to stand on the other side from your gumby. For some reason, Baal tends to focus his attacks on the gumby. When you need to recast it, always do it on the side away from you. That way, you are generally ignored. A gumby, combined with decrepify tends to stop the clone from being released. Just to make sure, give your merc a Kelpie Snare. With those 3 going, Baal looks like he's trying to swim through treacle.

I usually find that Baal himself isn't the problem - just getting to him.

I did it!-We(my minions and I) did it! We killed the old guy (Baal that is) gave him the old 'surround and pound'. The gumby/decrep stratergy is what did it for me. Thanks for the advice. Baal could harly move and could do nothing by get gang-pounded by lots of dudes. I feel so cheap playing this character.

Details have been posted in a new thread on the single player forum. I wont be around the necro forums for a while now that I wont be playing a necro. But look out for my continued presence on the Barb forum. Thanks everyone, ta.
