Do u really need Energy shield?

The thing is ES takes so many points for prequisites, and it has so many downsides. I've used ES in 09 and not much as changed besides the bonus from telekinesis. Is it really nessessary to have ES? For PvM and PvP

I didn't put a single point in it for my meteorb, and I matted her just fine.

If you didn't build your sorc around ES don't use it...

Its not necessary for sure. But it would be very useful if they fixed mana burn monsters in pvm.

Think of that: some builds don't need 100+ points spent in them (meteorb sure does) to be very good. Like an orb sorc, maybe with the backup of firewall or thunderstorm.

And it is more interesting this way. Sorcies gain 2 life per vita point. Its much easier to equip +%mana items (sojs, frostburn, lidless, silkweave, arach, hoto) than to find +%life items (mostly just jah-ed). Its easy to have 3k+ mana on a sorc. And ES costs roughly 20pts in PvM (20TK, es staff on switch or even for prebuff as a high lvl ES can last half an hour).

with some +skill items 1 point in ES easily transfers half your damage to mana.
i find this very useful even without any extrapoints in TK, because it justifies extra points in nrg which are extremely useful for teleporting or some other spells without casting delay, it regenerates at insame rates with an merc carrying an insight-polearm (even while teleporting) and it reduces the effect of bad resists.
