What is Mule?

What is a mule and how do you use one. Sorry i know its a dumb question. I did a search and couldnt find anything on it so I thought id ask.

A mule is a character you use only to store items. Some people even have dedicated mules just for certain items, like a rune mule or a set items mule.

Since unless you play with a character for a certain amount of time it will expire in 10 (or so) days, people start up a game, put their mule in there and go to sleep or watch a movie so it 'perms' them indefinitely.

I am not sure on Blizzard's position on muling, but I don't think it's too big of a deal...

...unless of course a mod comes crashing into this thread and shuts it all down!!!

The Blizzard folks don't care if you mule or not. When they say they "don't support muling", they simply mean that they have no interest in adding features that would make muling easier or safer - ie. larger, or tabbed stashes, a global or clan stash (which was almost implemented, but abandoned before the game was released), and so forth.

So how do you get 2 characters into one game at the same time?

Start a game up with a password and wait about 5 minutes. Then leave it and try to re-join it. If you can, then drop the things that you want to mule on the ground, and exit. Then re-join with the "Mule" character to pick them up.

Note.... If for some reason, you can't get back in you will lose your items. If someone else gets in and finds them, they may well pick them up.

That's it. It's pretty easy once you try. Make sure that you do not drop anything unless you can re-join.

The best way to mule is to have a trusted friend hold your items for you while you switch characters. You can also ask members of this forum for help with muling.

You can ride it, make it do menial labour, etc.
