View Full Version : new member trying summoner
Hello all
after looking on as a guest for so long decided to join.
my new home has a crappy connection so my sorc pally assasin dies everytime I lag out.
was wondering if hell will be as easy as nm with summoner I built?
found a homuncos head early on in new patch so decided would try one
at lvl 52 right now and I find that I can go anywhere I want without fear in nm.
at what lvl do u all go into hell?
and as for being slow I find that I can go thru as fast as I can run/walk with the occasional stop to deal with big crowds.
can't believe how fast these 11 skeles can kill with merc and golem support
haven't died from lag yet. but my friend joined me for awhile and we got tons of lag especially in chaos. do summoners lag the game with army more so than others?
thnx and quickly becoming addicted to my summoner

Play single player, no problems with lag then. Come to the Single Player Forum.
Hell is much harder than NM. Your main killer will be CE not the skellies.

first of all summoners make you lag more than anyother char with a crappy connection but....... your sommons are the best sheild agains dieing from lag. i would have no problem going to hell at around 60 with a summoner (but i have a sweet computer with cable and dont lag ever) so if your worryed about this then go to hell at around 75 you get excelent exp in nm baal runs till 75 hell would be better but its up to you, try goin to hell at 60 if you cant handle it then just make your own baal run games in nm (you cant see nm baal runs if you beat nm) the bigest problems with summoners is what to spend you points on after you have skeletons, skeleton mastury, and ce maxed there a great build, i have an 86 fitted with only mf gear (over 1000) and have 18 unused skill points left i have no problem at all and with no killing power from my gear -18 points i would be 68 not including the life i got at 86 the biggest issue is have crushing blow on your merc for bosses, gill's helm the set one (its cheap and a great helm for your merc) is a very good choice
thnx for reply
gonna go play my summoner some more .
I usually lvl up solo by doin meph diablo baal runs before goin to next difficulty since doing endless baal runs tend to get old pretty fast and it's hard to find gear if ur not looking.
I don't often get rushed either. although I get asked to rush peeps all the time.
I did try doing a few forge rushes but they just snatch the forge and act dumb about it so I don't bother with that anymore .
Hopefully my connection problems get resolved in the future so I can play my hammerdin sorc's and furysin
found orphan helm a while ago guess i'll put it on merc.
Thnx again for response will prob be in hell mode later today

For summoners it is not so important at which level they are, when they enter hell, more important is the level of your skellies. If you have +5 in the summoning tree ( and maxed skellies and mastery of course ), then you will have to recast skellies at some time, but it is doable. Once you hit +10 summoning, things start to get easy. As long as your + skills are low, use some revives.

Okay, a few things you should know. Sooner or later someone well say Put 1 point into all curses. DON'T do that. Its a big waste of points. For most people its going to come down to 2 curses. Amplify Damage and deciptify I suggest putting 5 points in both. Deciptify for boss's and AD for everything else. There is a very somple and easy way to make this guy.
20 Skeleton Mastery
20 Skeleton mages
20 raise skeleton
10 In Corpse exsplosion
5 Amplify Damage
5 decreptify
6 in Summon resist {I don't care about 5!!! 50% resistance to all is a nice round number!!}
5 in presiques
91 points total. This is very doable and easy. put all extra points in corpse exsplosion.
I have a ethral wand that gives plus 3 to SM and RS and Bone armor. and a Unraveled head that gives plus 3 to SM, RS and plus 2 to Bone armor.
Currently I am level 63 and moving right along in good time.

If you donīt know, where to put further points, 1 in each curse is an option. You can play arround with these curses, but most of he time you will be using amp and decryptify

5 in decryptify is definatly a waste, as this only increases duration, not the radius. You should be fine here wih +skills
More than 1 point in summon resist is a waste too. Your +skills will do the job here.
Maxed CE is definatly fun, as you can hit monsters almost a screen away with some + skills.

Nothing can beat Leoric as a weapon. For he shield, there are two shields I like. Homunuculus and Boneflame. No. 1 for block, no. 2 for no block and a max of + skills.

Okay, first of all I'm well aware of what the spell does but 4 seconds a cast for decreptify is utterly nasty. Seriously. Thats why I put 5. And 2 yards for Amp Is also pretty nasty.
CE IS fun but by no means does it need a full 20 to be effective. Thats a lot and the yard increase per level isn't all that great. As I said before 91 points is very doable so extra points are almost granteed. Getting CE to 15 or higher isn't very hard with this build.
More than 1 point a waste in SR? What? You go ahead and do that. If you get unlucky and can't find the drops getting past mightmare diablo is going to be a pain. The lightning hose stuff well cut through your skels like butter.
I have a crappy time finding items and stuff so I put the skills points where I need them to be, And if I do find the stuff? well... bonus! Its a win/win Senario. It supports crappy +skill finding AND good +Skill finding. You simply can't lose with this build.

If you only play that necro and donīt mf with a sorc, I would agree on your build, but if you mf or trade for stuff, the +skills will bring your amp at a nice radius and amp, decr and summon res at nice levels overall.

If you can't even get +6 summon skills and +3 rest......, I don't know what to say.
Lore helm (+1 all)
Spirit sword (+2 all)
Summon ammy (+3 summon)
Get the runes from countress, and the ammy by gambling. Use a socket reward on a broad sword if you have to.
Now, you will regret not having dim vision when you get fried by black souls. Life Tap is always good. (not for yourself, but for those pallys who are tanking) Same for Lower resist. (for sorcs) Confuse and attract is something that you can go without, but it saved me a couple of times. If you decided to bring your necro to Trist with some pallies, life tap is a MUST.

i dont agree with more than 1 point into dec after all the duration isnt important for bosses cause u cant ce them so what else do you have to do at least you have a job to do against boss if you have to recast it.
i sugesst maxing ce for the radius.
and maxing mages i would never do again there more of a con than a pro to you.
and there are usefull curses besides dec and amp, confuse and attaract or iron madin with a clay glome is a good way to get skeletons for when you start a game and need bodys but dont have enuff coin for a merc and if your pit running its quicker than goin to act 5 for bodies and comming back

I don't mind maxing mages at all, since you can always choose to summon or not summon them. Also, I will say again that 1 to every curse is good. I recall there being a guide somewhere about how to hex (not on this site/forum). After reading it, you will probably agree with me on this one.
Edit: Copy and pasted my rant from other thread here, since this is probably more appropiate.

Why can't people get away from the mentality that they have only 1~2 curses? Almost every curse has it's purpose. Personally, I use amp, decr, LR, Tap if playing with ppl, Terror, attract, and dim vision. (all of those except Tap is hotkeyed)
Amp for common enemies
Decr for bosses.
LR for PI's before CE, also unbreakable PI's. (lowers fire resist by 40+%, which is more than the 20 by amp) Of course, there are also the sorcs and such in the game if you party.
Tap for ppl to leech, but I don't play party often. I am on bnet only because of trading and a few friends.
Terror for blocked doorways, and the "curse of AoKL".
Attract for multiple boss pacts and/or fana stuff.
Dim visions for archors and souls.
I don't use Weaken for rather obvious reasons.
I don't like confuse because attract does it better.
IM is only good up to norm Duriel, damage just doesn't cut it.
The point is, there are 10 curses, at least 7 is useful, please use them.
[/end rant]

I only go with one in decrep and SR... sounds like you need a blizzard sorc to go mfing on meph so you can raise your +skills and not worry making a 'crappy' build.

If you concentrate enough on your CE, you should be able to hit any PIs with corpses from more than a screen away, meaning that you should always have the capability of spamming them with CE. For this reason, I don't use LR. Especially since unbreakables are practically non-existant.
Tap, like you said, is useless if you don't party
Terror has its rare uses, but none that can't also be dealt with by casting a clay golem behind the doorway in question. I'll let it slide because it is a precursor to Decrep.
Attract I really enjoy, but it is not necessary. Big boss packs can be blinded by dim vision while your skeles take care of other monsters, and damage dealt from monster to monster is rarely worth the effort.
Not investing skill points into the trees ending in attract and LR frees up more points for maxing CE and adding radius and duration to your ever useful AD and DV.
I also don't like playing with mages, so that has an affect on what I use as curses.
For a really lean and well planned build, I would not invest in the curses I would rarely (read:never) use.
