So after finding 2 Hellslayers this past week I'M getting the urge to make a Fireclaws Bear . Problem is there are not any bear guides that look appealing to me . Anyone tried a Fireclaws bear using a Hellslayer in hell ? Was planning on maxxing Lycan , Fire Claws , Firestorm , Oak Sage , rest in synergies and maybe 1 point in Grizzley . I never tried a Fireclaw bear before but enjoyed a mauler in the last patch .

Since fire claw doesn't depend on physical damage there is no need using a slow 2 handed weapon. You better use a one handed which is fast and a shield.
Example of a cheap good weapon: 6 shael phase blade.
Hellslayer is pretty worthless for any Druid build.

Shields are pretty much useless for me as the druid block rate is horrendous . This is for PvM so I dont want a shield . I was thinking of maxxing out strength and using the Hellslayer as I've never tried it on a bear . I guess I could also use the Ik maul but Iv'e done that before . Ohh well thanks for the replies ..

How many into Werebear or Werewolf?
hellslayer will be too slow trust us, its only good on like a charger

OK what about a Messershmidts Reaver ? I got that and the Ik maul as well ..

So Iv'e maxxed Lycan (20) , Fireclaws (20) , dropped (10 ) into Oak , 1 in all the pre-reqs , and 1 in Grizzley for a meat shield . I suppose the next logical thing to do is max Firestorm and then Molten Bolder ? That will put me at about level 80 so its impossible to max both Fissure and Volcano . Would I be better off maxxing the Oak and then Fissure followed up by remaining points into Volcano ? I guess Im going to go with the Messers Reaver as it is fast (-10) has low dex req (59) , 20-240 fire damage , good Ar and stats boost . Are there any good Fireclaws druid guides that are legible ?
I would suggest you to not max firestorm but something else, because in the future you might get a hellfire torch and if you max something else it helps the firestorm as a synergy.
Messerschmidt's Reaver is to slow still ... you want around 6-8 frames MAX but idealy 4/5 frames works on fc. If you really want a physical damage weapon i would say attempt to get a NON ETH tomb reaver w/ 3 os and shael shael (other option) that ... it will work well and you'll have fun w/ it.
It sounds like your not ridiculously wealthy so you could even settle for a non eth 2 os tomb reaver and shael sheal it and hit 6 frames, and that shouldnt go for to to much.

Hmm Messers is too slow ? I used a Bone Hew then switched to Ethereal Edge at level 74 last season on my Mauler and they seemed plenti fast enough for me . Yea Im not rich with items but I could proabably trade for that pole . Thing is Iv'e started this bear with the Hellslayer in mind and have the following base stats - 149 str , 60 dex , rest vit . So at my level Im stuck with only a few options .
Maybe I should just rebuild this guy from scratch - I have a 5 os phase blade that would work good I guess , but I hate using a shield on my druids . As far as not maxxing Firestorm - whats the other skill - you'd suggest I max ? Im in Hc Ladder so I doubt I'll be getting that hellfire thing anytime soon ..
Edit - hmm Did I do this right - 2 handed axe (-10) reversed , with a shael (20 ias)and no IAs on weapon . If so maybe Ill just go with a Ribcracker ....
Druid Werebear
Weapon Class: Two-handed Axe
Base Speed 10 with 20% OIAS
Fire Claws Breakpoints
Frames % WIAS
14 0 % * * * * * 14 frames for the Messer ?
13 12 %
12 13 %
11 21 %
10 27 %
9 32 %
8 45 %
7 60 %
6 72 %
5 86 %
4 117 %
3 174 %
2 231 %
1 457 %
no if you shael the weapon the ias goes as weapon ias. So it would be 10, 20 ias. Also always hit the "show attack speed chart" button because then you can see the oias needed to hit bps. w/ mess reaver you get 12 frames, then can go down to 11 w/ 10 oias, and down to 11 w/ 35 oias.

If you want cheap and fast Stormspire unique Giant Thresher hits 7fps with 10 OIAS (shael'ed) of course.

So Im gonna use a upped 65 ias Ribcracker and using sander gloves for 20 % ias and it says 8 frames . Still disapointing but I guess its better than 12 frame polearm class weapon ...
messer is too slow, trust me.

Ok OK - I finally gave in and went with a Lightsabre and a Tiamats shield . I simply cannot stand the block rate on a druid though . I waited too long and at level 65 now - I only have 35 % block with 136 dex . Seems the blocking is really putting me into block lock or something . Will it get better if I continue to pump dex from here on out ? Or is that the druids block like that at 75 % block as well . Iv'e never used a shield on any of my druids for this reason so im just asking if it gets better . If not Im going to have to go back to the upped ribcraxxor . Thanks again ...

A 3 shaeled tomb reaver will reach a 5 fpa with +50 IAS on equipment.
A good setup is highlords + 20% IAS gloves + a 15 IAS jewel in jalals.

It wont get any better b/c you are usin a shield w/ a base block% of 38%, which is very low. I would suggest using a shield that has something w/ a block % between 68ish -75 %. It will save you mass dex. Contemplate using a gerks sanctuary shield ... it was my shield of choice on my hc druid.

Yup as Voice has already said Tiamat's Rebuke has a very low base block rate (38%) and no Faster Block Rate at all so your stuck at 12 fps blocking...compare that to a Stormshield (67% base block) that has 35% Faster Block Rate, which drops your block speed down to 8 fps, or 7 fps if you 'sheal' your Stormshield.
In my opinion Tiamat's Rebuke should only be used on pally using holyshield otherwise the dex required to reach 75% block is very high.
Whitstan's Guard (Orphan's call set shield) is an amazing shield for werebears if you can get your damage reduction from somewhere else, you'll need very little dex to maintain 75% block and it blocks very fast.
On another note, as you've found out weapon options for werebears can be a little limited, i would suggest trying to obtain Grizwold's Redemption, its fast and can add some physical damage, good for thoses pesky fire immunes, or just use a 110 Ias Phase blade if your merc is tough enough to deal with all fire immunes.

Well I ended up using a Rhyme Troll 60% block it is much better than that confounded Tiamats. Now Im using the Lightsabre but tonight I found a Death Cleaver . Was wondering which one would be a better choice . Im only level 65 at the moment and using Ls but I might give this axe a shot once Im level 70 ...

it can hit 8 frames on a wb if shaeled... not bad but not the best. Dunno how it would compare for pvm or vs. lightsaber as i dont think i ever tried one on my mauler.

I guess I'll stick with my 7 frame Lightsabre until I have the urge to make a 6 shaled phase blade . I actually found a 5 socket phase the other day so I might have to try and get some shaels . Thanks for all the advise and consider this thread closed !!!
:thanks:
