unsocketing

Okay ive heard about this, where you can rip out the stupid messed up bad runeword, or you've got a better jewel for your socketed item...how do you clean out your sockets and what effects, besides the loss of your runes/gems/jewels are there?
I'm doing it for a IK helm, is there a problem with doing it with set pieces???

Put in your cube the item , a hel rune and a tp scroll and press transmute.

I don't quite understand what you mean by effect. The only affect is you lose the bonuses of the runes/pgems/jewels in the socket

Keep in mind that you won't get back whatever runes/gems/jewels you put in there once you unsocket it.

If you mean by side effects whether or not it'll lose the sockets as well as the things in them, no. A two socket ik helm, after being 'unsocketed', will have every mod it dropped with originally, it won't reroll anything, it'll just dump the mods from the jewels/gems/runes and have two empty sockets.
