Im kinda bored with playing my chars and decided to make a zeal pally. But I dont know what skills to get for a good zealot. I was thinking of pure physical damage(max zeal, sacrifice, fana) but I thought it was too common. I thought of zealots using elemental auras(holy fire/freeze/shock) But playing in hell will be a pain if the monsters are immune to one or two of these elements.

On the gear, I was thinking of using a light plate I mfed with nice 11 st 4 dex 50 life and 6 cr but thought the def would be too low(I was also thinking of making this a pvp char)
I thought of using ornate to tank barbs. But the req str is too high, a good
-40 req with high def good mods is hard to find.

Also I was arguing with my friend what belt/helm/gloves to use. I was thinking of deaths glove and belt(or death glove and bfist). But sigons helm + gloves would give you almost the same mods you want but with more AR.

And also about the boots, I was thinking of hsarus boots and belt but that means I would have to remove the death belt(although I could use angelics). Rares are also good but the unique mods from these sets are incomparable.

I would make the bold statement and say that Zealers are useless in classic. In pvm they are very slow to kill anything in the higher difficulties and forget about making a pvp zealot. They simply do not pack enough power for the vulnerabilities they have vs other things - monsters or people alike.

I would suggest you mess around with a Pally Ranger if you want to try something new. Not only do they rock in norm duels, but they can clear things fairly quickly if built right.

Budget Ranger gear:
Raven Claw
Tarnhelm
Eye of Etlich
2 x Sojs
Death set
Treads of Cthon

May out holy fire and its sins and you have a pretty nice and underestimated build...

I have seen a few zeal pallies own in llds and mlds using holy freeze as their aura.
I decided to make mine like that. a ranger is nice but cant really tank that much..
other opinions?

RAnger was uber thru Nm pre 1.10, and still not bad in hell. If he can get a conc aura (very easy nowadays in games) and a high damage poison bow and an amp curse, he can do ok. So getting the amp curse is the hard part since ubiquitous bone necros are very hard to get that curse from, but find such a necro to party with, or only play the ranger when one is available.

So zeal with fana isnt bad if u can get that long range conc aura also. There is a detailed discussion of this just a page or two back with using HF vs fan and a holy shock paladin.

I tried to make a shockadin once, after I realised the range in damage varies from x-xxxx, I quickly found out that landing a perf max dmg blow consecutively was out of the question. In a duel or for monsters, if I get the luck of getting low dmg in the spectrum on the most part, it's not worht it.

Holy freeze and generals flail is an option (or was) for zealers. Although it's widely known as a comprimising build to just really frustrate people.

Regardless, a zealer would get his head served to him from a ww baba, any casting sorcs, pallies, necs and even javazons.

Rangers you have the ability of range to attack. Regardless of the level, if they have low fire res, it's game over within a few shots.

Thats from my personal experience anyway.

It feels good when peopel laugh at a pally with a bow, only to find out you nail em down in 1-2 arrows.

http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=386326 --- the best classic pvm zeal setup there is. Read an expansion guide to find out skill pnts (if u dont know em)

How is 2X sojs "budget" ranger gear?

In the new ranger thread at the top of the page if have said my .02 about rangers

Zealers, rangers, their viable. Good. Not on par with hammerdin, or even sorcs, but their nice
