key of destruction

Can anyone tell me what the key of destruction is, for ,and what its used for. I found one and have no idea how to use it.

thanksthats part of the new quest. You start out by getting 3 keys of destruction, 3 of hate and 3 terror (these can be found at countess and summoner). Once you get 3 sets of keys you go to act5. In there open 3 portals (1 with each set of keys and make sure not to open them on top of each other). Once each portal is open you fight lilith, duriel and izzy (I suggested you opened them in one game only so you dont have repeat body parts you then have to trade). Each of these monsters will drop 1 body part. Get all 3 body parts and you once again put them in the cube in act5 and hit transmute. You then get to fight mephisto, diablo and baal. Once you kill the 3 you get a charm called torch. This torch (among other things) gives +3 to all skills to a particular class of char as well as anywhere from 10 to 20 resists and atributes.

the key of destruction is one of the 3 keys that you get from killing the Countess,the Summoner,and Nihilithak,not sure what your chances of getting it are but after you get all 3 keys if your in a ladder/bnet game if you put all 3 keys in your cube and it opens a portal to one of 3 ubers,Duriel,Izual,or Lilith Andariels sister,when you kill one of the ubers they drop a body piece which can be Diablo's horn,Baal's [Eye I think?],or Mephisto's Brain,after you get all 3 you cube those and it opens another portal this time it leads to Uber Diablo,Baal,and Mephisto and you have to fight all 3 at once but after you kill them they drop A unique charm called Torch and a thing called Standard of Heros.also the portals can only be opened in Act 5 Hell.

I was told these are useless for single players. Is it true? I got one the other night from the Countess in hell with my single player necro and I hate to just drop it, since it also can't be sold.

Yes, it is useless for SPers, but you can download a mod (PlugY at Phrozen Keep) that allows you to fight the Tristam ubers, at the cost of your trading rights at the SPTF.

If you don't plan on using a mod to allow you do the Ubers, then yes it is a waste to hang on to it in SP.

I would hold on to it just incase Blizzard makes a patch for the sp people,like me.

Why did they include it in Bnet and Multiplayer, but not SP? I mean, why even have the keys drop if they didn't go all the way with it in SP???

hmm...maybe bliz is trying to trick us into thinking that we cant do this in SP,but realy we can do something else with these keys instead...nah!

Yes. Only the hell variants of Countess, Summoner and Nihlatak drop keys from time to time.

Very doubtful that a patch will be made to include the Ubers in SP mode. It was probably much easier to simply disable the ability to create the portals then remove the keys from the boss drops. Since they aren't going to spend too much time on a 6+ year old game they took the easy route.

A side effect is that it gets everyone discussing the keys in SP, somewhat like the chat gem on Battle.net. It's there but doesn't do anything of consequence.

it is possible to do ubers in sp, but you need a mod that we cant talk about here :hide:
