What are good cheap wands, I currently use a sanders that someone gave me. I dont have crap to trade except for a dol rune. Hopefully I can solo my hell hellforge. What are viable cheap options? Im sc E ladder. My char is P nova summoner

alright thanks a lot, but for summon/poison necro to be viable in hell do we need uber gear?

Not so much uber as specific...you'll need a healthy amount of +skills, cast rate, mana, and resistences. currently my necro is pure bone skills so I don't get much as far as meat shields go.

I can solo through hell baal with the following gear

Helm: Wormskull
Amulet: 10% cast +105 mana
Armor: Vipermagi (ptopaz)
Shield: Homunculous (p diamond)
Belt: Arachnid
Weapon: Boneshade
Rings: both are 10% cast and mana, +dex, res
Boots: 30% r/w and 3 res
Gloves: Trang's

Currently no + charms, and level 88. Not the best gear, but I'm sure with summons they compensate for some lacking in gear.

Some nice, cheap wands are -

Shopped - (You can buy some nifty +necro skills wands from Malah in act five, hell - but be prepared to shell out the cash)

Death's Torch (Part of a set, +1 to necro skills)

Torch of Iro (Neat weapon, low level requirement, looks cooler than Death's Torch)

Crafted 'Caster' weapon (I've never actually made one of these, but I plan on doing it soon; You can craft them in Scepters, Wands and Rods and they boost your mana a little)

Gravenspine (you can usually get one of these for free; a very good choice - stats AND 2skills)

Ume's Lament (Two pgems and it's yours in most trading games)

Blackhand Key (I've never actually found one of these, but I've seen a few; they shouldn't be too expensive)

Cairn Shard (Kinda useful if you can't afford a Gravenspine...which shouldn't be a problem)

Maelstrom ( [ if you plan on hitting some stuff with your wand ] I don't understand why they put this wand in the game...it really doesn't DO anything; but it's still helpful, I guess.)

'White' runeword ([ for bone necros ]Combine Dol+Io (NOT LO) in a two socket wand; this runeword is B*TCHIN for bone necs)

Suicide Branch (Often overlooked, still an AWESOME wand)

Arm of King Leoric ([ for summoners ]These can get pricy. Try to find one yourself; they drop in the hell bloodmoor. At least, that's where I found two of mine.)

Boneshade unique Lich Wand (Probably the second most expensive wand there is [ besides a really good white ], but you could get a junky one for about the cost of a shako.)

Don't be afraid to hold on to Unearthed Wands and Lich Wands you find; they make excellent imbue materials.

Cheap options that aren't wands

'Spirit' runeword Crystal Sword (If you play ladder; it'd be much more expensive otherwise)

'Insight' runeword staff (Same thing with the Spirit, gives major mana regen. No requirements on some staffs, too.)

Culwen's Point (There's no reason why you should use this sword unless you're playing like, Classic. It's got +1 to all skills)


I know I'm missing one, and it's gonna bug me all day - but there you go

On a summoner - you don't need good gear at all to survive. Good gear is really about getting good Magic Find.

My level 90 has a wand and head which he uses to Summon and then switches to MF gear. His other gear is dictated by how much MF it has rather than adding to his survivability.

I also have 8 squares free in in my inventory to have some space to pick stuff up (if survivability was a problem they could be used to add health or resitances). All of which means I don't have max resitances or blocking (no points in dex!).

Its worth getting your poison and cold resitances into the 40s or 50s and try to max your lightning (especially for Baal runs) and fire (in that order) - aside from that modest plus skills (wand and maybe head) is enough to survive.

One other useful thing is teleport - you can have this on switch with Naj's puzzler or that exceptional axe (can't remember the name!). I get mine from an amulet - check all you see from Nm omnwards - its a plain blue amulet with teleport charges and 20% resist all!).

That depends on what you've splurged on with your skills.
A main-summoner necro might find Death's Web useful, while boosting your summoning spells is essential if you went with mostly poison.

The unique axe is called Spellsteel; you can use flawed gems and orts to repair charges.

i currently have maxed rs,sm,pn,pe and im working on poision dagger. Maybe the rest should go either ce or lower res?

I suggest using a +2 Death's Web; you asked for cheap wand reccs, though. Consider placing more into curses - lower resist does fine at level one however.
