View Full Version : Experience Point Suckers
I've read Wingchild's article on experience points and found it terribly useful for leveling. One thing I didn't find out is the effect of a very high lvlv char fighting alongside very low lvl chars.
Say you have a lvl70 char playing with 3 lvl10 char's in the same area. You're in Normal Act 1 Catacombs, so monster lvl is ~ 10. Using the experience fraction, the high lvl char will get 70% exp (70(70+10+10+10) = 70%). Now, the high lvl char is so far above monster lvl, the high lvl char doesn't actually get any of that experince. Do the other three characters still only get the 10% as determined by the experience fraction? Is that high lvl character actually an experience-point sucker even though that char gets none?
Thanks for your expertise!

Yes. XP is divvied up by levels before any personal modifiers are applied.

Yes. This is why generally you don't like high level's doing tristram runs for you, other then for speed. Though tombs/cows people always need high levels to help.

Can someone please provide me with the link to this post as I can't seem to find it? Thanks a lot!

First I will link you to the page on this site where there is a helpful chart. It lists each area and provides the average monster lvl in that area so that you can find the area that best matches your char lvl. Click here (http://strategy.diabloii.net/news.php?id=551)
The article by wingchild I referred to is actually at another site (my bad). But it is very good and I will use some of the formulae in my math classes. Get the kids to calculate the experience gained by a lv 36 Pally slaying Griswald in Nightmare. I think its in the curriculum. Anyways...it's at Wingchild's Experience Page (http://d2sector.net/content.php?page=d2expfaq)

Unfortunately, that particular copy of the Diablo 2 Experience FAQ has had all of the formatting removed from that HUGE chart in the middle, rendering it practically unreadable.
Is there a version of that FAQ somewhere that's still legible?

the chart doesn't seem to be up to date anymore, because monster levels in hell are overwritten by area levels now.
beside this, the link to Wingchild's guide leads to a D2 hack and cheat-site, which is against the forum rules.

I like this chart, but then again I'm a raw numbers kind of guy. And its on diaboii.net too:

Thanks SirDooFuss, this is exactly what I was looking for.

Whoops...there's a reason I posted in the newb forum. Also, the chart as linked-to above is great. However the most interesting part of wingchild's article is the math. Surely there are similar formulas for calculating experience somewhere here on diabloii.net! Anyone know where?
