This is annoying as hell. I like listening to music on winamp while I play d2 ( the d2 music is just too repetitive and annoying ) but every like 5 minutes my d2 colors will go completely wack and I have to alt-tab out and back to fix them. This is has been annoying me for years, and it only happens with winamp, I can use XMplay and it does not happen. Whats up with that?

5 minutes, eh? Hmm, does it happen roughly at the time when a song ends and the next one starts? Winamp must be trying to take focus from D2 for a reason...

Sometimes it happens when a song starts. Sometimes it doesn't. I was hoping there was some option I could disable in winamps config that would stop this.

Well, the only thing I can think of at the moment is to make sure the "Always on top" option isn't selected (Options --> Always on Top). You could try to make it so that WinAmp is only displayed in the system tray, rather than the Taskbar.

I've had this happen to when I used DirectDraw. Switching to D3D fixed it, but made D2 quite a bit slower.

Just use a different player when playing diablo2....

This isn't really helpful, but I believe it has something to do with running one program "under" or "behind" another. I have a vague recollection of reading about what causes this.

The short answer would be because Winamp is jank.

I've had winamp playing in the background (systray) in years of playing d2/xpac, with various monitors and video cards

Works fine for me

I get that sometimes when i alt-tab out of d2 and back but never just from having winamp running.

The only problem I have using winamp is that the game crashes at the end of an act. Just before the prompt to put in the movies cd. Makes no difference if I close down winamp either. It appears that it is winamp at D2 startup that causes the problem.

There is no option always on top. There is an option "Disable always on top while fullscreen applications are focused" which is checked.

I get that too, but I think its because d2 sound is disabled.

This is just the regular free winamp version, not winamp pro.

Like I said just use a diff player while playing D2 and then use winamp when not playing. =P

I have the regular version too, though it doesn't surprise me that ours would be difference, as mine is pretty old (I haven't bothered to download any newer versions in years).

Did you find an option to only have the thing run in the System Tray, and not in the TaskBar?
