I made a game called "gul here" to see what I could get for my gul rune and some guy offers me an axe (i forget the name, but gives holy freeze aura and is really good) he kept sayin he was in a hurry, so I was suspicious. he then exited the trade window and switched to an identical looking, but not any good axe. i called him a scammer and an idiot and he left. im kinda bummed because I REALLY wanted that axe for my zealer.

ah yes, it was doom. I asked him isnt that worth more and he said yes but he REALLY needed gul. Always be careful about what seems to be too good of a deal. I am now interested in making my own doom after seeing that one because I would love to have it, but I would be hard pressed for axe/runes and trading is out of the question for me. (cant afford most likely)

that's untrue :l
I stock up on gul runes on nl, since every once in a while, someone comes through paying a soj / hr each for bulk guls.

Used in Fury too.

Wow people still try that? I remember people trying that on me back in 1.09. Another irritating thing someone once tried was this;

They told me that they didn't trust me and they thought my SoJ was a dupe so they wanted me to move it around the trade window. While I was moving it they tried to randomly close the trade window in the hope I'd click and then drop it on the ground. Of course they claimed it was 'lag making the trade window shut', but I wasn't that naive and told em to stick their 'lag' where the sun doesn't shine. :p

lol, at least they used a perfect emerald, I have seem them used chipped/flawed, they must have been more poor than your scammer.

I always hated the sparking chainmail (never can remember the name) when I am looking for a shaftstop. Do they think I am stupid? That I wont look?

i've had someone try the shako one, luckily i didnt fall for it. someone also showed me an enigma for my hoto and then switched it to a rare. ALWAYS CHECK THE ITEM BEFORE CLICKING THE ACCEPT BUTTON. just don't fall for it and feel free to call the other person an idiot after you catch them.

Always be suspicious if they go back to the stash to "make room". I am almost embarassed to say i have fallen for this one once in my D2 career, but it has been attempted MANY times and is usally easy to spot. It was a enigma i was trading for but ended up with a quilted armor, lost 2 um's and something else.

lol, I often have to "go back to my stash to make room" because I run a very tight inventory. Space is devoted to charms that make me do more damage. Not everyone out there is a scammer, just the chumps and chumpettes.

Scammers aren't stupid per se, they're just very persistant. They keep trying to pull the same trick, but as you can tell from this topic, every now and then they do succeed. Not exactly something to be proud about imo, but that's onother thing.
I personally I'm astonished by the amount of scams that actually succeed. (based on this thread)

I know how u feel buddy, i had the excact same thing happen to me, I was trading for a archon enig and my trade was equal to the enig, so i was not trying to get a better item than my runes were worth, however he said he needed to make room in stash and came back and stupid me i did not recheck the item to make sure it was the enig....and all i got in return was a magic armor.....and i should have known better....now i check every time and make them check the accept button before i do

You know what man, I find that deragatory. I've been saving up pgems like nobody's business, I have trade 130 pgems for a nigma, and 120 pgems for 2 sojs which I converted to a hoto, so I have some decent gear. But man, I still cube tal runes to ral runes so I can trade them. Just because you people who've been playing for a while have so many high runes sojs and annis that you don't know what do with your poor selves doesn't mean there aren't people who are fairly new to the game still working their butts off to trade up to some wealth. If in real life you said "<insert any electronic device from cell phone to 50" plasma>? nobody needs those... lol..." you'd be certain to offend someone no matter what you put in there. I still pick up junk jewels because I can trade those up for better items too.

Someone tried to pull the same scam on me a long time ago back before LoD. I believe he showed me a Umes' Lament (back when it was "the rage") then switched with an identical Grim Wand. I almost fell for it. Damn my noob days.

I think dang79 was just trying to point out the huge disparity of the value of Gul on Ladder vs non-ladder. On ladder, Gul is valuable because you can easliy cube a couple up to Vex. This doesn't work on non-ladder. The only real use they have on non-ladder is for the very few runewords they can be used in, like Fury and Kingslayer. There are also more ladder-only runewords which utilize Gul, like Brand, Death, and Rift.

For a while I kept getting Guls from my non-ladder character's Hell hellforge runs. I would have much rather received an Ist or Mal or Um, even though Gul is more "rare".

Ok, you're right, I think I'm being a little too sensitive. It's just a little depressing to me when people are like "100 HR for this or that" and I'm cubing up tals for rals to trade in bulk and then people are like "oh yeah, who needs HR on non-ladder" but you're right. Sorry Dang79, didn't mean to be too pissy.

Hey, don't get me wrong, I cube Pgems too, I cube tals to rals like nobody's business. But I also have like 2 Guls sitting on a mule somewhere, collecting dust, because nobody needs them.

So don't get me wrong, I have a right to say nobody needs them because I'm selling and nobody wants them. The difference in value of Gul on NL versus L is probably one of the biggest, apart from ladder only items.

The reaction to getting GUL on ladder Hellforge is YES!!!! whereas on NL you'd be much happier with an IST which is technically a lower rune. The strange but real logic that rules nonladder.

Trade guls up for better items on NL? I have better luck pushing Rals in bulk, people have more use for them, I know only because I've tried. I keep these things you know.

It is exactly like Mister Hat says. I dont' have 100HRs lying around. I still count my SOJs for dear life and mourn the poofing of the odd one when it happens (it still does!)

heh, I too was almost scammed recently, I've been recently trying to trade everything off (including my gran  ) to get myself Tal Rasha's armour, which is all I need to complete the set, I offered Ist Um + Pul for it when a guy came in, he too said he was in a hurry but kept moving it, next think I new, it was Rattlecage (I know, it's a classic scam). I would have been gutted if I fell for that :uhhuh:

lol, I know. I was being silly. There was another post about a guy going to trade 3 keys for 1 and the guy put a good 4os armor in for free but the guy didnt have room so he asked to guy to wait a second. The guy freaked out and left thinking he was going to get scammed.

Its good to be cautious but there are people out there who help:) Don't think I was trying to put words into your mouth, I was just going a little over the top for the fun of it.

man... scammers are so pathetic, i mean, i must say i have fallen for a few scams before.... but CRIPES, they wernt scamming me because i had something good, they scammed me just to be jerks, for instance, they tried the "i dont have room, AKA, im a jerk and am going to switch my item hoping to god that you dont look" and i was trading my patriarch ,GODLY SWORD, OMFG ITS GODLY, and he offered an soj for it, and i was a noob but in knew what an soj was, so i was like HECK YES, he "didnt have room" and switched it with a leech ring, and i look back and think, what a jerk, it wasnt that good of a weapon, why would people do this, oh yea, they're jerks.

After i got sick and tired of being scammed once or twice, and i decided to give them a taste of their own medicine, so i went into a "Free for trust game, AKA, give me your stuff, and when i am supposed to give back with 80 sojs i leave" and talk to the scammer, and he was like, give me stuff and i will give it back with more, so i was like ok, jerk, be a jerk, and try to scam me, uh, no.

I gave him a IK helm, he gave it back with something, nothing good, and i just kept giving him whatever he gave me, and he didnt notice because he was waitning for me to put something good out, but by the time he realized that i scammed the scammer, his trade menu was full of his stuff and had clicked the accept button, thats right, i scammed the scammer, and after that i threw it in his face, it went something like this:
Me: HAHAHA SCAMMER JUST GOT OWNED
The jerk: OMG, how did i fall for that
Me: HAHAHAHAHAHA, SCAMMER AINT SO HOT NOW, OH SNAP SON
The Jerk has left the game, diablo's minions now weaken(or something like that)
so that just shows you that scammers can be tricked by their own greed, while he was waiting for his "big score" i was scamming him rght under his nose.
