best way to get 5 soc pb for grief

Awhile back I recall hearing once that earlier difficulties' (normal) socketing quests would have a chance to yield less sockets than an items full potential. So when I tried socketing a normal pb in a normal game, it didn't work (not that I was really expecting it to. Anyways, I was wondering if there's any easy way to get one without trading (I'm already trying to get Lo and Mal :cheesy: ). Thanks in advance to any advice given.

1 Eld Rune + 1 Chipped Gem + Low Quality Weapon = Normal Quality Weapon of same type
ilvl = 1. That is, regardless of what the ilvl was beforehand, it will be set to 1.

1 El Rune + 1 Chipped Gem + Low Quality Armor = Normal Quality Armor of same type.
I know the armor recipe will allow you to get a 3os Archon (for example). The weapon version could be a good shot for getting a 5os PB.

u wont be able to tell how many sockets unless
A) u find a good monster level table and know where your pb dropped from
B) u use not legal progs
the weapon recipe, remember, is a random chance of 1-6 for a pb
but quite really, it would be so much faster to trade for one
getting the pb is the ez part...Lo is hard

Unfortunatly there's no way to do it the 'cheat' way. The 'cheat' way is where you find a normal phaseblade in an area where the monsters are a certain lvl which allows them to only drop up to 5 sockets. You could then use the Larzuk quest to give it the 'maximum amount of sockets (fine print: that the monster who dropped the item could give.)' This could be built on with some items (ie 3 socket archon, or phase) where you could find cracked versions, then use the repair recipe to reset the ilvl to 1, resulting in 3 sockets.

Alas for phaseblades there is no such range. The range for phaseblades is as follows;

Ilvl 1-24 = 3 sockets
Ilvl 25-39 = 4 sockets
Ilvl 40+ = 6 sockets

So there is no way to get an auto-5socket. Your best bet is famring for plain phaseblades in Hell Cows/Pits, then using the random socket recipe, yielding a 1/6 chance of you getting the 5socket phase.

is it possible to get 5 sock eth dimensional blade then upgrade it to an eth phaseblade+5soc?
what about the durability issues. once upgraded does the durability disappear to indestructable?

it would be so nice if a person smites zeals avenging charging or converting with an eth pb grief and with no durability. if this is possible then im gonna go ladder and create eth indestructable pb grief

u cant up normal, socketed, magic, or set items.
