If I socketed my sigon shield with and eld, giving it 71% block, would this be good enough to hit max block later on in hell? I realize stormshield is the ideal shield, but I don't have it.

Your gonna eventually get something better.. even storm is in reach. I used my hell hellforge (mal rune) to get my storm. Even if you dont want to get SS, you can get things like lidless for pgems, and that KICKS sigons ***.

well the question was in regards to max block and thus lidless is awful. sigons is a serviceable shield but yes there are better. an upgraded mosers, upgraded visceratuant, rhyme (i like it in a heater), and stormshield are all better options for max block. i would also probably *not* waste a socket quest on sigons as i would expect to find one of the other shields. nightmare meph can drop mosers and visceratuant. also dont eld your shield, go for pdiamond. almost all sorceresses need more resist. eld might save you 15-20 dexterity and thus 30-40 life but you can get that life just two small charms. getting 19 resist all takes twice as much charm space.

They are worth Mal right now? That's expensive. Sigon is only good for lvling equip, but it is great for that purpose.

are you talking about a big vietnamese guy? :)
yes, it's decent for low levels, if you can't get a viscauteraut. however, the str req is pretty high. i usually go with a rhyme shield and then a spirit. however, at levels 1-29, a staff is usually a better choice.
for high levels, just get a spirit shield.

for block, just get a whistans guard for huge block
my necs got 50 something block with only 90ish pts into dex
but better overall would be mosers, due to the 63 res (2 p diamonds)
and decent blocking

Visceratuant gets too little love.
It both give high block and +skills. The secret is to upgrade it to a Heater. Heaters have a natural 42% block chance. Visceratuant adds 30% to that number for a whopping 72%. Better than Whitstans in my opinion.

I agree. SS is great for block, resists and especially damage reduction, but an up'd visceratuant is a very nice intermediate shield - and cheap because everyone thought lidless was better in 1.09/1.10.
Sigs shield is great starter gear, and I pump strength early to use it, but as soon as you can use a visc instead I'd do that.
(Spirit is nice, using one now till I get SS, but block is bad. Lidless is pretty much worthless since the Spirit runeword came out.)

Stormshield still owns it, skill or not.
With stuff like bugged Tomb Vipers around Damage Reduction (or more correctly Physical Resistance) just can't be beat.

Those tomb vipers piss me right off.
And I play SP, so trading for a stormshield isn't as likely. I do have a Moser w/2 Pdiamonds though. I'm saving a lot of stat points until I get into hell anyway, so I'll just switch over to it whenever I get up there (I have midrange resistances in NM w/o the Moser.)
thanks fo the help guys!

Nothing in terms of items. You can stop moving, and tele away. Moving kills you rather quickly, from experience. Whenever you move, you are appearently checked for psn damage again. (= being hit again)
Edit: If my 3000+ life valk cannot survive it, what makes you think that your sorc will even with damage reduction?

You shouldn't really even be facing these guys in the first place. Why go after Nihlathak in Hell anyway? That would mean no more Pindle for you :(

Itīs simple: The bug makes that ph dmg adds to poison dmg PER FRAME.
DR works here in the similar way as MDR against Inferno-like fire dmg. 50% DR mixed with "dmg reduced by xx" stuff should help a lot. 300 or 3000 hp does not matter that much in this case.
Theoretically this dmg could be reduced to 0... Itīs a theory though. I have never proved it. All depends on how much ph dmg it is about... Quesion for RTB :D

Phys Resist still allows you a bit more time to click on that antidote potion (you DID bring a row of antidotes when you were going after Nils, didn't you?). And then there are Nils' Corpse Explosions to mind.
Physical resistance IS a good thing.

Interesting for the damage reduced my XX part. I guess without using that mod, it won't save you. (50% damage reduction = double life) Not that many PvM mf sorc has 1500+ life, do they?

Read above, it's not the poison damage. It's the physical damage you receive when you walk in the clouds. Antidotes doesn't help. I learned it the hard way, but I can tele out now. Merc is sometimes too stupid to refuse to stop moving. I wouldn't do there without nature's peace myself.

Oh, I were under the impression that the Tomb Vipers conferred a bugged poison state that did the phys damage.
I trust your word and as far as I can tell you are telling me that the phys damage is dealt whenever the clouds try to confer a poison state to you. Right?

It appears to be so, although I probably don't want to do more testing of it to make sure.

I think if you don't hit the Halls of Pain waypoint you'll always have the portal to Pindle.
