I've played D2 for quite a long time, ever since 7th-8th grade (like 4-5 years ago) and whenever I went "mephing," I'd always use the same style: teleport like mad around level 2, then once on level 3, teleporting over to the portal. From there I'd fight Meph by hit and run, dodging his orbs and running around his lightning attacks. Sometimes I'd lag for a second, and that's all Meph needs to send me back to the docks.

Since I started playing again, I was wondering what other peoples' strategies were for taking down the Lord of Hatred. :D Please fill me in if you know a more effective way. Thanks in advance.

Moat trick of course.
But only with blizz/meteor.

i used to do it differently when meph was leechable and get the additional merc mf, but now it's not feasible.

just use the moat trick.

I use an orb sorc. Run up static or static orb. Merc tanks and i take him down in about 2 orbs.

Trick to meph and merc is slow. My merc uses reapers/Dury shell/Tals helm. Dies once about every 30 runs.

I can actually have a beer, talk on the phone, IM, etc. while killing Meph with meteors. Is this a sweet game or what? :clap:

Get your mitts on a reapers if you can, the decrep helps him stay alive so much better. This ladder my merc has reapers, rockstopper and shaftstop and he can tank meph no problem. I just stand behind him casting fb and meteor and meph goes down in less than 15 seconds. He dies only if he doesn't get a decrep in (rare) and I can't get him a pot in time.

You can play d2 in a window, if you're computer is capable of handling it.

Thanks for the link to the moat trick. Now I can survive hell meph like nothing. Still pisses me off how Dragonhand spawns a little too close to the left of the portal every so often. But I can't complain. :D
