Conviction doesn't work with CIs?!

Sorry for the newbie question, but my buddy and I have been working our butts off, after an Ohm dropped in Throne on day 12 of ladder, to make infinity.

Well, after quite a bit of trading, it looks like it doesn't remove Cold Immunities. Not so much bad news for me, as I'm a trapsin, but terrible news for him. Is this true? What do ya'll with elite Blizz sorces use for a merc?
