View Full Version : Trying to decide between CL/FO and Meteorb.

I'm looking for an MF build, but one that can survive in Hell. My summoner necro's pretty slow now, and waiting for the skellies to kill Hell mobs isn't amusing. If I'm not hiding behind them, I'm killed in seconds.
The sorc'll be relatively untwinked.
Anyway. It's essentially Chain Lightning vs. Meteor.

meteor ftw? At least for soloing/untwinked I think it's somewhat better in DPS and in the fact that you can move between casts while if you move between CL casts you're reducing your already not as high DPS.
Of course CL can get potentially higher DPS but it usually does way less than max hits, and when it does, meteor would hit not too many less monsters.

Why do people always think that it is CL vs meteor instead of CL + L vs FB + Meteor? With meteor, you can spam 2~3 fireballs in between, increasing the damage a lot more. To deal large damage to small groups or single enemy, you are not going to use CL neither, and use L instead. Which brings to the point that meteor + FB is probably better, since it does larger damage in total unless you have a good amount of +skills.

FO-CL is harder to play and more expensive to make "godly."
Untwinked, I think you'll be better off with Meteorb.

CL is clearly better than LT because it bounces and can damage multiple targets multiple times. The only instance my FOCL sorc uses LT is when moat-tricking Meph. There is no instance (except possible the Maggot Lair) in which LT is better than CL. Even in PvP, You run around the Blood Moor and Fire at lone Zombies to make "homing" LT bolts. Also, in PvP, if you miss and hit an Ele Dru's Grizzly for example, then it'll bounce and hit him. (Mana rarely is an issue, FOCL sorcs have alot of it; if they don't, they can't survive Hell Runs without an inventory full of pots)

CL is much better for taking out large mobs. Meteor's radius is relatively small by comparison. Also fire immunes are extremely plentiful in Hell. If you want to run the countess at all, meteor and fireball will be useless.
I say give lightning a try. It's at least slightly unconventional, and it's really fun to watch the lightning jump around from monster to monster.

There is also arcane, where lightning will hit more than CL. By the way, the solo oblivion knight that you want to kill...... (it happens a lot, OK's are usually left over when I spam both FO and CL) Why CL when he is the only one left? I have both meteorb and FOCL, and I am mostly disappointed at how slow moating meph is. She is good for chaos running though, since L/CL kills knights faster than orb does alone. (doom knights are fire immune)
Edit: For my meteorb sorc, she doesn't kill countress. My merc does that.
Edit 2: I am not talking about mana. I have insight and this is not a problem. I am talking about lightning does more damage per target, and when there is only 1 target left, lightning does more damage.
