After being away from the game for quite a while, I felt like playing and decided to try out a combination of blizzard and fireball. I've nearly maxed both of the character's attacking spells, but I'm having a little trouble deciding on which synergies to go with in the case of fireball.

Going with fire bolt will save me 3 points that could go into cold mastery, but firebolt will also be completely worthless as a weapon in nightmare and hell. On the other hand, I'll burn 3 more points getting meteor, but it will deal a very large amount of damage. The question for you guys is, is meteor worth getting? It seems to me that against cold immunes I probably would just dump fireballs on them and not worry about my non-spamable timer spell, since it's nowhere near as brutal as blizzard. Those of you out there who have already done the build with meteor, do you find yourself using it often, or do you think those points would've been spent better elsewhere? Similarily, do those of you who went with fire bolt ever regret not having meteor?

I've found Meteor worth getting on my old ladder blizzballers. It's always neat to have a timered bomb spell. :)

Somebody has already had the same thought before you. Look at this excellent Blizz-Fireball guide. Have one of those Blizzballers myself. Very nice to play with a decent amount of +skills.

i gotta say meteor has its uses, and you wont be using firebolt at all. if you want to use the points into cold, then get 1 point into coldmastery as it gets boosted by plus skills and put it into blizz's synergies first, as they all increase damage/ decrease resist by 5%.

Meteor is a bargain for the amount of damage it does. It's ideal for killing Meph (moat trick), bombing packs of skellie archers, hitting the packs in Baal runs, etc.

I went back to the 'meteorb' build, because I've never had luck at getting blizzard to hit anything, but either way it's a great spell.

My HC Meteorb sorc rocked last ladder before I finally started playing San Andreas and then Mercenaries. Fireball is great but sometimes the monsters would heal quicker then I could deal damage with fireball alone. Meteor got me over the hump and let me get the kill, so yeah I think it's definately worth it.
