I've been thinking about building a hybridzon. The reason for this is that I don't fancy a single element javazon, and I don't want to rely on poison to kill lightning immunes.

The build I'm thinking about is basically the following:

20 Lightning fury (crowd control+synergy)
20 charged strike (boss killing+synergy)
20 freezing arrow (for lightning immunes)
20 cold arrow (synergy)
10 in passive tree (one each)
6 prerequisites.

total 96 skillpoints, completed at level 84

If I have about +10 to skills this would leave me with plenty of pierce, penetrate and arond a lvl 11 valk. since this is fairly low level, I was thinking about using a defiance merc to help my valk with it's tanking duties.

A lot of people say lvl 17 is the magic number to hit with your valk. Can someone explain to me why this is important? If it is, I might sacrifice some points in either charged strike, or cold arrow to pump my valk. The question is, what would be best to sacrifce then?

I would like some feedback on the build.
thx in advance

I've recently created my first amazon so I'm a complete noob and have no clue on most of your questions. From looking up guides and stuff to get me going, I read something saying at level 17, your valk is upgraded to wielding a war pike which is why most aim for that level.

Do you have a link to the article where you read that?

I have a level 80-something zon like this one, but none in charged strike, and a point in strafe. She kills well even in late hell. There was actually a guide to this later in the old Freyas frostmaiden guide, but I think it was lost when it was reposted. As for the warpike thing:

Valkyrie:
This is probably one of the strongest skills in the game now. The Valkyrie has been improved so much since 1.09 it now receives the same bonuses from Dodge, Avoid and Evade as you do, which results in a very tough tank. Raising the level of this will improve its equipment and at level 17 she will be equipped with a War Pike. Strong choice!

If I were you I would probably sacrifice a little in charged strike rather than cold arrow, as it's a very small synergy. I hope this was at least remotely helpful.

Edit: What gear are you planning on using?

ive made this char in two different ladders: and very success zons they both became once optimal equipment was obtained,

I used 50 points in lightning to make charged a lil stronger

I used max FA and about 7 in multi, then added to cold

I left valk at base and always have so i have no edxperience with the level 17 valk talked about, I assume she is a stronger tank but with a strong merc and recastability , I focuesed my point in increasing my damage potential.

I used 90 ias in bow with windy ias'd, loh, highlords, and shako ias'd to hit 90, this is 9 frame attack.

In java, I used eth titans up'd which just really rip, hard to get tho, i think i paid about gul each ladder...

dual leech ring gave me enough leech once mighted by a2 merc, ravenfrost on other pinky spot

merc had just mediocre gear for most ladder 2, eth reapers toll, up skullders, my former armor, and stealskull,

I used enigma and hope i can make enigma again, its is the most fun armor for zon imo...

I never made spirit last ladder as i quit before the next releash of words untill1.11 started up, but i think it would be great, anyway, i play on USwest, i still have my ladder two zon but ladder one expired, if you would like to check um out,

edit*** these zons use razortail

I've just made an FA/LF zon on the new ladder, currently lvl 78 with 1 in all passives except pierce, which has about 5 (so I can use LF with my thundergods. In retrospect though, razortail is a better choice). I've maxed FA and LF, almost maxed cold arrow, got about lvl 10 strafe after +skills. When I've finish cold arrow, I'll put 1 point in LF's synergies then either max valk, sacrificing any ability to kill bosses for a good tank, or max power strike. My current equipment is:
tal helm
angelic amu, 2 rings, armor (the benefits of using the armor are +1skills, +100mf - i.e a cheap and worse skullders)
buriza
lidless / bad titans
+2 bow, 20 ias, some res gloves
war travs

imo this is one of the best zon builds available. i was thinking at one time about trying this baby but i had little to no gear. FA and LF compliment each other very well - both benefit greatly from pierce, FA freezes, LF kills, etc. however, season 2 ended before i could make this zon. -_- go for it by all means.. it's a great build.

the only thing i can recommend from here is you get 9 total points in pierce (including +skills), and use razortail which will give you guranteed pierce.

as for the valk, here is the link: http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=344306&highlight=valk+gear

GL and HF with it. :)

If you can't afford expensive gear, M'avina's set is great. You can trade most of the pieces for a few pgems, and it has a ton of resistances and mods for cold zons, but some ias and pierce issues, since you can't wear razortail with it.
