I just started on the new ladder..and I've decided to go with a sorc since with tele, I can MF meph a lot faster.
I'm playing on hardcore so there are lots of lvl 80+ pallies who started the new ladder with a pally. I've seen some of them and one had HotO already.
I was wondering, before getting enigma how does a pally get rich? I'm guessing hell pindle/shenk/eldrich all day long?

You guessed it :) I went with a hammerdin (as always) an my main mf
character. Number one reason is nothings immune to my hammers. Lack
of teleport does limit my options however. The dolls in memp make it pretty
tough to do him if you want to level. However, I noticed alot of people miss
or dont mention my favorate mf hunting ground. Trav! I have pulled more
Soj, Maras, skillers and stuff out of trav than anywhere but you have to be patient. In about a week I leveled my hammerdin to lvl 90, found a Hoz, (thank you Eldritch) travs (thanks Andie) and found enough skillers to
buy arachnid, shako ect. Mostly all on council and shiek/eldritch.
You have to also do some occasional pit/countess/andy runs. Its a pain
but 1.11 patch has a evil ip ban if you do games too quick. Im in the middle
of my 8th hour of ban as I write this. I actually found a Jah from one of
Shenk's minions but no luck on the ber yet ;P If you really have problems
doing trav I recommend the pit. I dont get very lucky there but you
can get base lvl 85-88 items there so the Coa's and all that fun stuff
will drop there. Found 1 last ladder. I rarely use a sorc to mf until I can afford
to buy and equip a uber godly merc for her as there is nothing more frusterating that running into immunes all day long.

Actually, if you don't mind...could you give a little bit of a description of how the process went for you as far as starting from a bare Paladin on ladder...to MFing Hell?
What I mean is...what'd you do, with what, when, where and how did you start from nothing to having a good MF char ....from scratch?
I'm running NM Meph with my Meterob sorc and I have to tell you, it's a bit more than frustrating...

hammerdins are easy.
lvl1-18 stick to tristram runs and sewer runs until your 18. buy +bless hammer scepters make a stealth armor tal eth
18-24 level in tombs
24+ pass act3-4 do ancients your lvl 25 do shenk and eldrich runs baal runs etc try to get 2 sets of tal thul ort amn runes now a 4 socket sword 4 socket paladin shield
with those you got 75% fcr with 2 spirits and stealth then its all easy from there put 1 point into salvation redemption to take care of resist mana problems
if your lucky you can find viper magi and peasancrown hoz from normal baals that will make nm and hell like a breeze

From what I know, normal Baal cannot drop HoZ.
The ilvl for HoZ is 50 (easily matched by normal Baal who is lvl 60).
However Gilded Shields belongs to TC51 - but normal Baal can only drop from TC42 and down.
Too bad really. Me still looking for it too. Would have been A LOT easier.

He is right normal baal can't drop hoz i thought he could sorry. Spirit is not bad if you can find a high resist automod shield

@senji: a NON-MAGICAL high resist automod shield...cuz u can't use runewords in magical items. So it's even harder to find... :x
But would be sweet idd :)

they are not hard to find you will see alot in nm white paladin shields will always get 4 sockets from larzuk i have a 45 resist targe on hcl too bad its not a sacred targe

Ok...so back on topic...
I did a few test runs with my tooled up Hammerdin from SP, with Enigma, Shako etc...
Even with that small amount of MF, I am pretty disappointed in the drops I was getting....I ran Council at trav, Frigid, Pindle, Meph and Baal...
So someone give me a bit more advice or inspiration to re-make my hammerdin on Ladder....'cause I'm starting to think I'm stuck doing NM Meph runs with my Sorc for the rest of the season.... oy!!

Euh, got a Meteor sorc myself and Hell Meph is a piece of cake for her...
@ Blask Sea: big tnx. Haven't got much time at too look at the thing in detail but are those numbers official? Or are they made up based on experience and received drops?
Will look at it later though.
Ontopic comment: I am soon going to make a hammerdin myself. Decided this before I saw the topic, but like the idea even more now I read this topic.
Can't really say yet whether mf'inf with hammerdin goes nice or not cuz he's still to be build :)

Cannot give advice on building hammerdins, as I've not done so (yet), but I can definitely say that life on the Ladder is much easier. Better runewords with better variety, especially from 1.10. More Cube recipes, more options to upgrade runewords, which makes it possible to work up to some of the high ones without relying completely on MF. I've only started on the ladder for the first time since the 1.11 release, but after several years on either Single Player or the Normal Realms, it is much easier to get things done.
